Yes. It is possible and that transcendental enlightened stage is called as jivan-mukta, or liberated, even in this life time.

In this regard, Sri Rupa Gosvami describes in his Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu (1.2.187) as follows:

iha yasya harer dasye
karmana manasa gira
nikhilasv apy avasthasu
jivan-muktah sa ucyate

"A person acting in Krishna consciousness (or, in other words, in the service of Krishna) with his body, mind, intelligence and words is a liberated person even within the material world, although he may be engaged in many so-called material activities."

This is only possible if the almighty blesses. the enlightenment or any impossible becomes possible if thy gives his blessing upon us. if the lame can climbe up the mountain and the deaf can hear everything as well as dumb pronounces the Veda then enlightenment is a mere victory.

Your question has the answer in itself beacause somewhere you feel it's not impossible. We have great saints that stand great testimonials like Buddha!

We are enlightened ones on this planet perhaps we havent been aware. Is not Awareness just what enlightentment means??? We are aware of our miseries than the goodness in or around us. We feel our head when we have a headache otherwise we just unaware of it. We are unaware that we breathe yet we get aware when we breathe and smell bad or good fregrence. And who you want it to certify as Enlightened one??

Yes, but I would not wait until you are on your deathbed, because you may not be on one to get enlightenment at that time. Not everyone gets sick and lays in bed dying and decides to accept Jesus. Some people get in car accidents and die instantly. Something to think about.
