i know this occurs because I work and live in the Bronx, NY. If it's not that way where u are from great for you but it is here. it's only like this if you are non white here though. I don't understand the mentality of the police though, because when I reported a crime they blew me off, but my clients are stopped and searched for doing nothing. Convince me please, police officers.

Are police officers scared of this question? Does it make it easier to answer if I say I am white? i am, by the way. I just don't understand this "system" when it is set up to hunt people by racial profiling. Just wondering.

I live in NYC, which is not primarily white so any concept of minority neighborhoods is kind of out of the question. Most people who get picked up by the police are just standing there, doing nothing. They succumb to a search because they don't know they have the right not to. There are no places to go to hang out, if your young. You can't go to the park, unless you have kids or u get a ticket. So people hang out on the street. That's not sufficient for a search. So how do you officers justify this? I don't think u honestly can.

Dude, I have no idea what you are asking. But I was a white cop assigned in a predominately hispanic neighborhood. Guess who the majority of my tickets, arrests and searches were done on? Does that make me a racist? If I was asigned to a white area, then who would be complaining if all I did was arrest white people? The citizens are not privy to all the info a cop has when he begins an investigation and we don't tell because people can't keep a secret. If I get a description of a B/M in blue jeans and a white t shirt, how many people does that cover? Same for any race. Do I stop everyone fitting that description? No, impossible. So I stop people who may fit the description but exhibt other things like nervousness, out of breath, etc etc. If it is a minority neighborhood then minorities are getting stopped. There is no great conspiracy, if there was then why stop at only a few? Are they just the smart ones we take?

I am not trying to be sarcastic but I just love it when stuff like this comes up. When you know the whole story you understand and if in the uniform would do the same. You don't know the whole story but just get the wrong impression. Its a natural thing but don't always assume the worst - it makes the questioner sound unintelligent.

I think that the question of colour is once again being used
to sidestep the question of crime, if someone is out there
doing nothing a Policeman or women stops and asks to
search you, you succumb to the search, if nothing is found
you go about your normal life, and move on............................

Good policing is about doing just that to people who have some
times done nothing no matter what colour they are, there are
Police of all colours there, likewise there are criminals of
all colours, it is good when a Policeforce is vigilant like
the NYC force, I mean if you report a crime, they do take you
seriously don't they, and act accordingly.....................................

As someone looking into what happens all over the place I
would have to say policing does not have a colour, even in
NY, so why ask this as they are doing their jobs, as for
the undereporting thing, they keep stats don't they.....................

As for the minorities thing, there are areas all over that are
crime hotspots, maybe they are stopping people according
to area rather than colour.............................................................
If they stop you or me you do not complain so why think that
the minorities do not have a right to be treated equally and be
stopped by the Police....................................................................

The police are there to do a job, and people should be nice
about this, even minorities of every colour and maybe the
treatment from both sides will change..........................................

Cops do not care if you are white or black if you break the law then do the time. get over yourself and move on I bet you blame the poilce for everythng. WAIT you said your "client" that means the cops found something illegal and charged them "WOW" the cops search must have been good or else you would not have a "client"
go smoke some marijuana I bet you want it legal dont you. you must be a public defender not a great defense attorney

There is no convincing you. You've chosen to take the word of your clients over anything else. I guess the people of Westchester are coming to the Bronx to commit crimes, and then going home.
