I can't believe people on here still ask questions about buying Pit Bulls despite what they do. Give £1000 to a criminal (breeder) and then risk losing the dog.

I Know, I find it disgusting that anyone could think of an animal as a status symbol

The American Pit Bull Terrier was banned in the UK in 1991.
This Breed are still recognised in America & are kept as family pets & show dogs. There are thousands of well bred, well trained Pits in other parts of the world that have never & will never attack a human.
What you have seen happen in the UK is W#nker# breeding cross bred 'pit bull' types that, to be honest wouldn't even fit into the breed standard,.Just because the think it makes them look good.
There are backyard breeders everywhere ruining many breeds.
But as long as there are stupid un-resherched buyers willing to part with large amounts of money for what is basically a mongrel, then of course people are going to breed them, for money.
If anyone is thinking of buying a Pedigree dog they must go to the Kennel club & breed clubs. Reputable breeders WILL have KC registration & health testing Certificates.
Do not buy a dog off the bloke round the corner or free ads on the web.

The 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act states that it is illegal to own, buy, sell and breed "pit bull-type dogs" in Britain, unless a court decides that an individual animal poses no threat to the public.

I dont really like pitbulls - they dont look that nice. But there are some dogs that are said to be dangerous or are banned breeds in the uk that are nice and harmless. I dont think just because a dog is a certain breed that it is dangerous - it depends how they are borught up. I think if people who want to be tough and stuff get dogs that are categorized as dangerous and mean make them like that and may not treat them properly. I know a few dogs like rotweillers and dobermans that are nice.

the reason for buying a pit bull should be real. bit bulls are special bred dogs that need a lot of love especially around kids. they are not dangerous at all. when people speak about a bit bull that killed his owner, check the back round of the owner or it could be that the dog was not a pure bred which is one of the main courses of "pit bulls" going insane.but the choice is yours and good luck
p.s don't ever abuse these dogs because they never forget!!!

A friend of mine had a beautiful white pit bull named Pearl. She never hurt anyone. She was safe with the babies and a very loving dog until some idiot fed her anti-freeze and killed her. Not all pit bulls are dangerous. It's how they are raised that makes them what they are.
Bad owners make any dog bad.

I believe the breeders should get a long prison sentence.

Me and my boyfriend just got a pitbull puppy like 3 days ago. He will never kill a single thing! Or I won't let anyone take him away from me! Pitbulls are misunderstood. They are sweet sensitive and beautiful! You have to own one to know what I mean. ^_^

ban the owner not the breed.
I've seen some collies, chihuahuas and dachshunds be more snappy than any bully breeds i've come across. don't see them being persecuted do you? exactly.

in some places pit bulls aren't illegal anyway.
