Mostly polytheism. Christianity in places esp. Yemen and some northern Arab clans. Judaism in Yemen and some in Medina (Yathrib as we called it then).

However the polytheists believed Allah was the "chief" god and the others (sun, moon, idols etc ) acted as intermediaries.

Christianity, Judaism, and Polytheism. Polytheism would have included idol worship. However besides these there would have the 'religion of Abraham' - not in the sense of Judaism as we know it- but rather monotheism, since the arabs in the region of Mecca were decendants of Abraham through Ishmael. However, they would have been a minuscule minority, as history tells us that most of the succeeding generations of arabs corrupted that religion and mixed it with polytheism.

Judaism, Christianity, & Hindi were very common on the Arabian penninsula before the time of Mohamed. And, it is believed mush of Judao-Christian mystisism came from Arab culture / tradition. Abraham, the first man to make a covenant with God, was Arab.

Polytheism. I have never run across the names of the old Arabic deities; presumably they were wiped out by later practitioners of Islam.

They knew that there is Allah,by the exact name "ALLAH",but they were worshiping idols to get them nearer to Allah,(that is what they thought).

039.003 Is it not to God that sincere devotion is due? But those who take for protectors other than God (say): "We only serve them in order that they may bring us nearer to Allah." Truly God will judge between them in that wherein they differ. But God guides not such as are false and ungrateful. (QURAN)
