Panic attacks are a really horrible thing to live with - I went through this six years ago. Have you been to your GP to ask for help? I did and I'm really glad I did, I got some medication which I only took for six months but it was enough to let me get a grip on my life and on my anxiety and now I'm completely recovered.

If it's standing at the school gate that triggers your panic, perhaps your son is old enough to walk a little way from the school to meet you in a place you've arranged? Or if he's not, you might consider phoning the school and speaking to the headteacher - just explain that you have anxiety disorder and that waiting at the school gate will trigger an attack and ask if you can pick him up from the school office five minutes before school finishes.

All the best to you, I remember how awful panic is and how it completely takes over your life so I really hope you get better soon. A book which helped me was called "The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook" by Edmund J Bourne, if your library has it you'll get some great advice in there.

Do you have anyone who can go with you to collect him? It may help if you have someone by your side to keep talking to you and to assure that everything is going to be okay.

You need to focus on why you are going there. Think of your little boys face lighting up when he sees that his Mom has come to pick him.

I know its not an easy thing to do as I am having problems with panic and anxiety myself. I have not been able to go into crowded places on my own for quite a few months now. My counsellor tries to get me to focus on individual people around me and realise that there is no threat. Take in deep breaths and stand away from the crowd in a place that feels safe.

Hope you cope and get through this really difficult time.

Hiya, I think that it's important that you address what is causing you to react this way. Is it worrying about your child, or past experiences of when you were at school? I'd go see a doctor about this and see what they suggest. Otherwise it aint gonna just go away. Take care.
