They're very high energy dogs so make sure you're prepared for that, and remember that coat needs an hours combing every day to get the tangles out. If its wet or muddy you've got a dog that wants to keep going out then coming back indoors.
Find out how to care for a long coat, never wash the dog until you've combed it because that causes a layer of felt to develop next to the skin, then you have to have it shaved.

As well as the KC and Beardie websites, look in a big newsagents for the dog papers, they often advertise breeders.

At the bottom of this Kennel Club page is a list of the breed clubs for Bearded Collies. Some of them have their own websites. Only buy a puppy from a reputable breeder = if you contact the Club Secretaries, they should be able to put you in touch with breeders in your area.

Get in touch with the Kennel Club, they have lists of all puppies available, from reputable breeders which are also registered. I had the same trouble as you,and got mine through the Kennel Club.Going through the Kennel Club will ensure you get a dog that has had ALL necessary health checks.I have two Beardies, wonderful dogs, but please research the breed,if you have not already done so.Beardies require LOTS of attention, grooming, exercise, and training. Beardies LOVE to play, and play rough, but are a fun dog, also very excitable, they also like to run,and run fast. Beware if you have elderly and young children about.Their favourite toy is a ball,be prepared to have plenty. You must be dedicated to this breed, start training and grooming as soon as you get your dog home.Be firm, but gentle. Beardies do NOT respond to shouting, they get confused and tend to throw up if upset. The secret of training a Beardie is to make him/her think they are doing what THEY want to do,not what YOU want them to do.A Beardie does not mature till the age of three, and has many colour changes to their coat, ending up more or less back to their original colour!!! Most Beardies have sensitive stomachs, and rarely able to eat tinned dog food,so watch you dog carefully.(I cook fresh food daily) Most do not eat well as puppies!! I cannot stress enough, the time and commitment you will need for a Beardie. Alway's remember...............a bored Beardie, is a Beardie in trouble!!!! Good Luck with your dog,Enjoy him/her. Once through the difficulties of a puppy and properly trained, you will have a wonderful dog!! One other thing...................once you have had one Beardie, chances are you will want another!! My best wishes to you,and a hug and X to your puppy when he/she arrives!!!!!

Try champdogs http://www.champdogs.co.uk/
If a breeder does not want to interview you then don't buy.
Ask to look at the pedigree of the puppy and don't buy an aunt/nephew or uncle/niece mating. No matter what the breeder tells you, it is too close a mating for a family pet. I bought an aunt /nephew mating and at six years old she is still harder work than her (outcrossed) daughter of three and our other two and a half year old ***** put together.
