Just this evening, I experienced the most excruciating pain in my left leg. It went into a spasm and it felt like a knife was cutting my leg off. This happened since 2001 after I did running. It's 2007 now and it has gotten worst. I went to the doctor, and they only told me it was leg spasms. I looked up my symptons on google.com and researched peripheral artery disease. Can this be life threatening? I need a doctor's advise or anybody's suggestion that experienced this and how it is resolved.

When you went to the doctor did he check the pulses in your ankles and legs? If you have strong pulses in you lower extremities you do not have PAD. You didn't say how old you are, PAD in more common in older people with risk factors for vascular problems.
Do you have risk factors, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, CAD, sedentary lifestyle? I would see your doctor again and tell him your concerns. There are a number of other causes of leg pain and he can explain why he thinks you do not have PAD or if you need further evaluation with a Doppler Ultrasound to measure the blood flow in your legs.
PAD can be a life altering disease, in itself is not generally life threatening, but makes a person more likely to have generalized vascular disease putting one at risk for heart attack and stroke.
