Smart people think too much about things and aren't able to go into denial quite as easily about certain things.
For instance, my last gf was gorgeous - totally hot. I was totally smitten - absolutely head over heels in love with this girl. The reason we broke up was because she was into hard drugs. For me, that's a no go zone. I know the risks she's taking. I know that she's associating with unsavoury people to get her drugs. I know the people at the lower end of that spectrum lie, cheat and steal to get what they need with little or no concern for anyone else.
I know that there would be a ton of guys who would not have broken up with her about that and wouldn't have cared if she thought the drugs were more important than the relationship. They would have just gone out with a gorgeous chick for purely that reason alone.
But here I am, smart, sad, and sans girlfriend for the moment. *shrugs*

I think it is because no one likes to feel stupid. If a person is dating someone smarter than they are, that person must be secure in themselves and really like the smart person. An insecure person might be intimidated and feel stupid when faced with the 'smart' persons' intelligence. I also have a theory that smart people think too much, and may over analyze, instead of just letting go and enjoying the moment.

Because of difference in expectations. Smart people wants smart conversation but sometimes smart conversation does not have a place in romance.

Because people who are more intelligent are above what others can be. They get their priorities streight before anything. They know what theyre talking about and they know what theyre doing. Girls and guys get too intimidated by more intelligent people. Plus smart people are more interested in learning over dating than the average person

Smart people know the risks...
They tend to be more cautious, and less aggressive.
Of course that's a generalization and you will find exceptions.

its not exactly 'smarter' people, its just people who think too much. some people will try and think to far into things, trying to work out how they can get the best result, instead of just taking a shot and going with the flow.
