I have a 1995 Nikon N50 with Nikon Nikkor AF 35-80D 1:4-5.6D and 80-200 1:4.5-5.6 and don't want to just throw them away, any suggestions about a good match with a decent DSLR would be ppreciated.

You can use both of these lenses on all Nikon digital SLR bodies with the possible exception of the entry level D40. If your AF lenses have internal AF-motors (not all AF lenses do) you can use them on the D40, too.
The entry level D40 or D50 models would be the obvious choices to replace your N50. The D50 the more advanced of the two, despite being a year older (it is still in production.) The next model up is the D80, but this is a $400 price jump. I list a couple of review sites in my profile for in-depth information.
One further thing to note - all Nikon dSLR cameras magnify your lenses by a factor 1.5. So your 35-80mm effectively becomes 53-120mm on a digital Nikon, and the 80-200mm becomes 120-300mm.

I think he needs glasses. She looks about 60, maybe early 60s to me. Perhaps he been around too many botoxed, plastic celebs to really know what an 80 year old looks like. None of the mid 60s or 80 year old women I've seen look like Linda. Above poster. You're Mum must have great youthful genes.

Check to see if the D50 will take those lenses. My understanding is all the digital nikons accep the AF lenses.
