In terms of "how bad" smoking is...depends on a lot of stuff. If you smoke cigarettes in moderation (like...maybe a half-pack/day or less) it's probably less bad than overeating during a long period of time....so maybe like a 3, if 10 is really bad. Notice I say "less bad", because tobacco smoke is bad for you, no matter what. You smoke a bunch of cigarettes a day, probably like a 7-8.

Benefits of smoking? For me, I am able to relax and meditate when I smoke. I, for one, am just too damn ADD to sit still and try to meditate for a half-hour each day. Nothing gets me focused quite like going outside and lighting up a nice cigarette.

How to quit? That's the million-dollar question. The best success rates are found by those who, pardon my french, go "balls to the wall" and quit cold turkey. Nicotine Replacement Therapies are OK, but it's not as good as the "real thing"

Cheers

Smoking doesn't relax you at all that's just your mind playing tricks on you. The reason you're nervous is because you're having a nicotine fit.

You lose weight when you smoke because it accelerates your heart rate when you stop your metabolism self adjusts. You'll be thinner whilst smoking but you'll have nasty diseases and ED.

One drop of nicotine injected into the bloodstream will kill you not to mention tobbacco smoke contains over 500 toxic waste products.

Consult your doctor the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association have programs that wll give you the best advice. I quit cold turkey after a friend of mine started bleeding internally from smoking clove cigarettes (the most dangerous) but not everyone can do that.

I've been a smoker for over 15 years and I'm totally sick of it. I hate buying them, the smell and all the health risks. To give it a 10 is not high enough for how bad they are. I recently did a search on the ingredients of cigarettes and was very shocked. Here's one example I found:
Ammonia is a colorless gas with a very sharp odor. It is present naturally in the environment and can also be man made. Ammonia can be very irritating to the skin, eyes, nose, throat, and lungs.

The process of using ammonia to boost the impact of nicotine on the user is called "free-basing." Similar to the chemical process of free-basing cocaine, the end result is an enhanced effect of the drug.

Nicotine exists in two forms, acid and base. When ammonia is added, it reacts with the acid form of nicotine in a cigarette and converts it to the base form. The base form vaporizes more easily from the smoke particles into a gas phase. As a gas, nicotine will deposit directly on lung tissue and begin to circulate immediately throughout the body.

I was horrified when I read this and now I'm also searching for ways to stop. The link below has a lot of helpful info on how to quit. Good luck.

You are the only one who can stop smoking. Patches can aid you, but it ultimately has to be up to you to stop. So the "find the will" answers are all you are going to get.

Also, you could assign someone to keep you from smoking, however, this is hard to do unless you have a parent or significant other that consistently monitors you and can grab a cigarette out of your hands.

The benefits of smoking?

a) You smell really nasty and only other smokers are attracted to you (mostly)
b) You are increasing your risk of lung cancer dramatically
c) You become addicted
d) You waste money on something you really don't need, but "have to have"

Oh wait.. those aren't benefits...

In summation: It's up to you to quit, use patches, nicotine gum, etc as aides to help you quit, because unless you have a strong will, you aren't going to do it.

Learn the art of relaxation.

Eat only when hungry. Eat not more than three times a day unless u r diabetic. Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.

go to the nearest health care facility in your place and ask a copy of the poster that shows what will happen to your body from head to foot and even your private parts if you dont stop smoking now.

stare at it everyday so be sure you put it beside your mirror so you'll see it anytime. look at it and see yourself several years from today.

i tell you it so ugly and the photo looks like a gangrenous body. every system in your body is illustrated colorfully and what smoking does to each body part.

i know this because they distributed free copies in our schools
