Hi everyone! Just wondering if any of you get into the swing of Lunar New Year. My husband's family are Chinese but they don't really do anything special for it. I'm a teacher and I spent the week leading up to it teaching my class about it, making dragons and lanterns and giving them red packets with (chocolate) money in it. Lots of fun! I'm regretting leaving it until the day to try to get into a Chinese restaurant for dinner. Not a chance! Did it last year and had an absolute blast. Anyone else?

My Chinese martial arts school celebrates it every year! We have a huge banquet, with a demo team performance and lots of laughing and fun. We have lion dancers, and at the end of their performance, you feed them "lucky money" to be sure and have an auspicious year. It's one of the holiday celebrations I look forward to most during the year.

Incidentally, the Year of the Boar is supposed to be very financially auspicious. Perhaps I'll get some of that lucky money back! :-)

Yes, i celebrated it. I'm Chinese, living in Indonesia. We had a big dinner, but not at restaurant, usually my grandma cook for us. We eat Haisom, Abalone. We also give Ang pao (red envelope) to children or relatives who's not married yet. Angpao filled with money. Children love to receive it. Some people also like to playing cards just for fun.
