I have 12 teeth left on top. The 2 next to the ones in front are baicly gone. One totaly fell out when i bit into a apple danish the other day. That leaves me with 10 and all 10 of them will need filled and drilled and god only know what else. I get them cleaned and fixed but they just do not stay intact. I can bite into bread and they will crumble or crack. So what are my chances of convincing my dentist to pull them all out and give me some new ones? I'm so tired of dealing with this. Oh did i mention i just turned 28. which is why i'm asking. usually 28yrs old and dentures dont go together in the same sentence.

hi,
I'm more or less in the same boat so I sympathize with you. I've been told mine is a genetic thing so perhaps you have the same?. Whatever the reason, I think you should do whatever will make you feel better and if that is having your teeth pulled and getting dentures, then do it!. It's more common than you think at your age. I posted a question about this so please read my responses.... they might help you decide.
Good luck x

Actually the choice is up to you with some guidance from your dentist. If you want to have them removed and will feel you will face life better without them then go for it.

But you must first ask your dentist what are the other alternatives to dentures such as implants, bridges, or if your roots can be used to stabilize any of the false teeth etc. Remember when the teeth are removed, and the roots, the bone level decreases and since you are only 28, they will be almost gone in about 20 years time and then it will be a problem to make dentures that will fit well since dentures need the bone ridge to be stable.

Id say rather try and save at least the roots of the teeth or some teeth for now so that your bone levels stay normal for longer.

Some people just have teeth that go bad no matter how much they take care of them.
You sound like you're a good prospect for prosthetics. I'd say that if your dentist doesn't want to do the extractions and fit you for a denture or a more modern replacement, get an explanation from him and then. unless it's convincing, try another dentist.

If your teeth are saveable, then do it. They can put a partial in for the back teeth. There are many things dentists can do now. Don't just give up. Dentures are not easy to deal with.
