Doi Angkhang is the best place in Thailand, the whole area looked like a heaven to me. With cool, fresh air and morning dew on the grasses & flowers, really looks pure heavenly to me! In the morning, you can get to view the spectacular sights from the mountain. I've been there once and I've grow in love with the Doi Angkhang.
It is in Changmai and the journey up there takes about 3 - 5hrs, depending on the speed you're going at. There is a nature resort called Amari Hotel, on the mountain and a nice, cosy Camellia restaurant. But you need to book the motels in advance, especially in the peak-season. The motels are all reserved in advance, so in case you're there and you need an overnight stayover, there is no room vacancy on the spot.
Enjoy mountain-biking, hiking, mule-riding and bird-watching or if you prefer, simply relax in the Camellia restaurant and enjoy the view. Managed by Amari Hotels and Resorts, this comfortable first-class property nestles close to the Myanmar border. You can see soldiers guarding at the gates. There are many walking trails around the resort. Nature lovers will notice many rare species of plant and birds in the surrounding countryside.

thailand has much to offer especially for kids. You could spend a week in Bangkok visiting the Grand Palace (a must), this is the place where you'll find the statue of giants, elephant, the emerald Buddha statue (be sure to dress properly; i.e. no shorts for women and proper shoes (no sadle). In Bangkok, you'll find a mixture of modern large shopping centre, movie theatres, resturants, shopping for handicrafts. I think it's worth to buy a day travel tour to floating market, and temples which you'll find it more convenience than getting lost in the heat of the city and frustrated with local taxis, whose English are not sufficient.
Then, you could find the place or things you like and revisit them.
Then, best place I would suggest would be the north. Chiang Mai offer a cooler weather with nice flowers, mountain. Again, you could buy an excursion tour on elephant back riding; not so dangerous for kids, and rafting on the way down; this could be risky for kids but make sure you find big raft.
Else, Chiang Mai, Chiang rai, Mae Hong Son, Payow, Lampang are nice places in the north to visit.
In the north east, there is an open zoo just about 2 and a half hour from Bangkok, called Khao Yai (big mountain). You should be able to buy a tour from Bangkok. I suggest you stay overnight and go on the night trip, which they actually take you on the tour of a truck or bus during the night and you'll see deers; tigers and sometimes elephants in the wild. Surely, there are lots of monkeys; small ones running around. This is a real jungle.
Then, you can visit Cha-am, Krabi, Phuket in the south where the beaches are really nice. I recommend PP island. If you do have much time, the beaches in the east are really nice too; namely Rayong, Samed Island (definitely beautiful and only about 30 minutes boat ride from the main land: you should stay a couple nights there at least. Repeat the sea is so beautiful.)
Stay away from Pattaya. It's commercial and more like a large red light district with both hookers gays prostitutes roaming night streets. Have fun. PS. lots of web on Thailand. Seach a bit.

A lot depends on how long you plan on being in Thailand. If 2 weeks or more then do the three main cities, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. In Bangkok a must see is the Grand Palace, In Chiang Mai, the Masea Elephant Camp, and Phuket, Fantasea and the beaches. There is just so much to see, it is best to read some guide book and the tourism of Thailand web site.

Most answers above are great, but I also would recommend Konchanaburi for it's natural beauty and waterfalls. Erawan falls is marvelous with great swimming and there are many beautiful resorts in the area. Also, this is the setting for "The Bridge over the River Kwai" in which American and British prisoners during world war II were forced to build a railroad for the Japanese. Alot of bad things happened there, but you can still cross the bridge on the train which is very interesting with great scenery along the way. I'm sure you and your kids will love the area. Just wanted to mention something other than the standard cities and beaches which you also must visit. Ayuthaya and Sukhothai are also historical gems and should not be missed. You won't believe the beauty and grandeur of the old capitols and the ruins are accessible to all and the kids will enjoy exploring them. Enjoy your trip!

The temple of the tigers... look it up is bay far the best.
www.tigertemple.co.uk
This is legit
However the 7 year old maybe too young... try and contact it.
Yes you do get the hug and cuddle and take walkies real 'pet' not 'zoo' tigers.
its the size thing and kids maybe noisey... (not good)
You would need calm kids over 110 cm as smaller or noisy would be focus of tigers attention.
No they are not drugged, or mistreated. Some where on leases, some not and they got swapped around.
ie if you had to handle 14 dogs its easier if not all loose at the same time.
The cubs do bite like kittens and may get crabby and want their mum... If so put them down. So only handle the cubbs if prepared for a nip which has some pressure (also rabies shot0
This was not origonally a tourist thing. More a monistary that became a sancuary and now tourists help the bills.
They have been totally human reared.
Also the Transvestite shows are good. Not sleezy more broadway show.
Tips...
Insist on meters in taxis inc from airport, and get them away from tourist spots or hotels.
Avaoid tuk tuks as they tend to give you a tour of the shops they get commisson from and a pain.
Best not get hotels in the Sukumvit and Soi area... Ie gogo bars as in hookers.
Perfectly safe just may not be so cool for the kids.
Thais love kids. Teach them to wai.
Ie hands like prayer and bow saying Sawadee ka or krap (one if for guys the other girls)
And teach them other thai language.
Also stick to street food. unlike the crap we get here theres is excellent. However all drink bottled water inc the thais... note this inc brushing teeth... make sure they dont use tap water unless specifically told its ok.
ALSO STICK TO GETTING VIP BUSES (IE INTERCITY COACHES) from ONLY thai offical bus staions or sleeper trains as the TAT tourisat ones are a rip off and awful.
The Thai ones and the Subway and monorail are great.
Go to Koh Toh and learn to Scuba dive (chilled and safe... bar the territorial dogs... (no reports of rabies but esp at night stick with the kids and teach them to calmly back off from dogs if challenged)
MAKE SURE THEY DO NOT PET CATS OR DOGS OR LET THEM LICK THEM...
LET ME MAKE THIS REAL CLEAR.------------RABIES IS FATAL IS NO MEDICINE IN TIME.
The hosptials are great there.
Also thais have nice shopping malls and cinemas etx.
If boys they will love it it you find a street seeler selling bugs... tends to be in tourity ares say around kho san road near the Royal Hotel.
Temples of course.
Also in April there is the Sonikran festival...
Ie the whole country goes waterfight crazy and smearing chalk paste on each other... its their new year.
Temples of course are great.
Oh and make sure the kids dont by ninja stars, knives, or taser (stun guns)weapons off the stalls. Note the tasers look like remote controls.

Hi, if you are interested in ancient cities and ruins, there will be a few places that you can head for to take your pictures. There are quite a few sites spread around the country and you just need to plan your route. I can suggest the following: Your arrival to Bangkok, nearby will be the ancient city of Ayutthaya. There are a few sites in the city where the ruins lie. So do be ready to move around. From there, you can take a aircon coach northeast to Buriram where Phanom Rung is. This is a majestic Khmer capital in the old days and its location will tell you why this was chosen. Nearby in Korat is Phimai, a smaller Khmer style city. You can also take great picture there. From there, head to the north where Sukhothai is. There are 2 major sites there with ruins spread over an area, so you will need to spend quite a bit of time. There is Sukhothai Historical Park and Si Satchanalai Historical Site, about 100km between the 2 parks. From there, nearby province of Kkamphaeng Phet, there is also a historital site from Suknothai era. Also nearby province of Petchabun is the ancient city of Si Thep. Hundreds of ruins too. Head south to Kanchanaburi to the ancient city of Muang Sing in Sai Yok. More relics for you. Need any more, email me.

Hi, there are many and varied attractions in Thailand to see and visit. Question will be how much time do you have?
In Bangkok alone, there are quite a few them parks that your family can visit:
Safari World, Dusit Zoo, Dream World, Crocodile Farm, Snake Show, Elephant Show, Siam Water Park, Bangkok Doll Museum, Siam Ocean World.
Just outside you can find Bang Sai Folk Village in Ayutthaya, Muang Boran in Samut Prakan.
There are more if you look at the tourism website given earlier.
Any further query, you can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com.
