Hello
I got an 11 month old siamese cat just over a week ago.He has settled down great but unfortunately nookie doesn't seem to want to hardly drink.I have tried things like putting water in his food which just made him leave his food and i am trying something which is working a little bit as he seems to like to drink a small amount of running water from the bathroom basin but i would be grateful for any other ideas

Cats tend not to drink very much, especially if they eat wet food (without added water) versus dry food, when they need to constantly have fresh water available.

I had a cat who liked to drink from my glass of water. Eventually, I would fill one of my finest glasses with water (room temperature) and place it on the dinner table where Delphy, sitting on a chair daintily drank from the glass and ignored her water bowl. It's a true story. All the best to your cat.

One of my cats is a lazy lazy water drinker too and I do worry about it becuase this cat also loves to eat dry kibble. So I bought a pet water fountain by petmate. A pump makes water flow down an incline into the main bowl so it keeps the water well-oxygenated. Cats love oxygenated water that's why they tend to drink from dripping facets and sinks. Since I got this gadget from Petsmart, my cats have been drinking more regularly.

Use wet (canned) cat food, and try him with cat milk - you can get it at most supermarkets. Not drinking enough is a real problem for some cats, and can lead to kidney problems, especially if he's on dry food.

My cats now are on a mix of dry and wet food, and while they always have a bowl of water available, they don't do more than lap at it a couple of times, whereas they'll drink lots of cat milk quite happily.

Good luck, and of course avoid cow's milk - it gives them runny tummies.

Siamese cats love cold fresh water. also feed your cat GOOD food. Some cat food is high in magnesium beware! this is very bad for Siamese cats, it will cause them to get crystals in their urinary track and have blockages. another Good thing you can get for your kitty is get some kind of living sweet grass the cat can chew on. sold at most pet stores, grown at home in a small dish (Rye grass). All pet food is basically dead the cat needs em zines to help with digestion and needed chloroform. and city tap water is very bad for all living things.(chlorine, fluoride, heavy metals).
Get a heavy insulated bowl this keeps the water cool. Plus remember cats don't drink water like dogs, they like just a little bit at a time.

Cats prefer running water or fresh water. They have little fountain water things for cats. It just keeps recirculating the water so they're more likely to drink it. If you aren't watching they will often drink from the faucet or even the toilet. I keep the toilet seats down so the cat won't fall in. When I brush my teeth I turn the faucet in the tub on so the cat can get a drink. I also let her see me pouring new water for her. If she goes outside they often will find water in puddles etc

Try feeding him some wet food along with the dry every day.
According to my Vet most cats don't drink enough water and since the wet food has a lot of moisture in it, feeding that along with dry helps to keep the cat hydrated.
