How do you get rid of dark circles under your eyes when it they are not caused by lack of sleep? It almost seems that they are just permanent and somewhat sunk in. If anyone knows the cause of this also it would be greatful. Thanks in advance.

There are many causes of dark circles, from age, heredity, allergies, cold or sinus infection, bone structure and glasses which are not so commonly known.

If you would like to apply home remedies to reduce dark circles, here are some of my suggestions:

Buy a box of regular, old fashioned unflavored gelatin (e.g. Knox) from grocery store. Take a small cup or bowl and put in 1 teaspoon of the gelatin mix. Add one tablespoon of boiling water & stir for a minute. Test it on your wrist to make sure it is not too hot. Then, using a cotton ball, pat it under your eyes as you would an eye cream or gel. Go lie down and listen to some music, or take a bath & let it stay on for at least 30 minutes. Then just rinse it off.Gelatin is very high in Vitamin K & Biotin. It will not remove your dark circles on the first application (but you will notice a difference), but if you do it daily for a week, and then 2-3 times a week for maintenance, you should notice a drastic reduction in dark circles.

I think you are referring to dark circles only rather than 'bags'. The circles are sometimes allergy related so you could try an elimination diet or see an allergist for allergy tests in the case of pollens, cat hair, etc. It is also possible that it is due to your natural skin coloring and the skin being particularly thin under your eyes thereby showing the colour from the veins through your skin. In that case you would have to find a very fine expensive type makeup such as is used by people who have birthmarks, to cover the circles. Sorry don't know the name of the makeup. Good luck!

The "Hollywood" answer to this is Preparation H under your eyes. It constricts the tissue that is swollen which causes dark circles. Of course, that's not a daily fix (or shouldn't be) but more for when looking your best is a requirement (big interview, photo day at school, new drivers license photo LOL). Other wise cold compress is the way to go. Monitor your caffeine intake. Drink more water.Regularly get whatever amount of sleep is optimum for your body (I need 8 hours, some people need 6, some 10) And no alcohol.

My 19 year old daughter has always had dark circles under her eyes. My boys have dark circles as a result of allergies. I have had the same since I began using eye drops for high eye pressure (glaucoma). I haven't found any solution out there yet.

Actually, the puffiness under the eyes is not caused by lack of sleep. It's actually just the accumulation of fluid from lying horizontally all night. You might try a Cold Compress, but otherwise you might try seeing a doctor if you're really concerned.

Sometimes, unfortunately dark circles under the eyes can be hereditary. i found what works for me is lots and lots of water and fruit and a regular sleeping pattern. smoking doesnt help either and dont have too many nights out on the grog.
