I think that on the internet it is easier to say things that you normally wouldn't. You don't have to face that person, and you can end the conversation whenever you want. The downside is that there is no expression or inflections in your "typing" so sarcasm, humour, etc. can get lost and things get taken out of context a lot.

It is not just women, but alsomen who hide behind avatars in Net chats. The unfortunate thing of course is that as soon as you start lying, you have to increase the lies to cover up for each new lie. However, there is the positive side that people talk about things that they would otherwise not talk about.

You're right - anonymity is liberating. It is also an environment in which people think that they can live out their fantasy. So, understand that while some might reveal things that they wouldn't normally reveal if you actually were talking with them face to face, they also can invent, make up, or otherwise fabricate a whole series of falsehoods and lies.

Totally, it´s liberating. In real life I´m really shy but in chat rooms and even answering questions I´m not afraid to say what´s on my mind. Sometimes it can be exciting because you can be your true self without any boundary, I can say what I really want and what I really need and I don´t care if people like it or not.

Women and men both! The internet provides a feeling of anonymity and as such, people are more inclined to say things they wouldn't say in public.
