Bicarbonate can be used to alkalinize the urine (for drug-detox of amphetamine). Magnesium hydroxide is used as an antacid for peptic ulcer disease. Aluminum hydroxide is also used as an antacid but has slower onset and longer duration than magnesium-hydroxide.

Aluminium hydroxide,Sodium bicarbonate are antacids and Milk of magnesia is a purgative.
