I have talked to the recruiter quite a bit about various things, but I keep forgetting to ask this. When I'm ready to go I want to leave right away, I don't want it to be delayed. Thanks for the help!!

No one can sign up and go in right away. When you talk to a recruiter and decide to join you have to have an ASVAB test, and a physical. Police background checks have to be done, and they have to get copies of your high school transcripts, social security card, birth certificate and diploma.

All of this takes time. Hence the "delay" upon entering.

Another factor is the availability of any schools you want and open slots in boot camp. If there are no openings in boot camp for 3 months, guess what? You are not going for 3 months. Same goes for the school you want. Same goes for the school you want, it has to be timed to start at the end of boot camp, and not just for you but everybody else that wants that school also.

yes, everyone goes into DEP.. how LONG you are in DEP, however, can vary, with the maximim time being 12 months.

When you leave for Great Mistakes is dependant on the Rating you choose and when a slot opens up in that A school.

If you choose a rating and then discover that it will be a while before you ship, you can put in a DAR(DEPPER Action Request) that basically asks that if a slot should open up sooner for that school, that you would take that one isntead, just keep in mind that you literally couldget 24 hours notice that you have to leave.

No, it's only one option and it's called the "cache" program, (which delays entry for 3 or 4 months).
I know because that's how I went in.

The DEP program is just a place where they get you all signed up for the Navy, so bascilly after the DEP you get a floder that has your life init and you give it to the military for 4-6 yrs. but yup you can't go to the navy without going to the DEP place or program.
