Hi there, my family uses the electric rice cooker for steaming buns (plain, pork, chicken...), dumplings and the like.
Also for cooking stews/soups, but normally we cook them on the stove rather than use the rice cooker, 'cause the rice cooker is usually occupied by the rice :)
And sometimes for cooking different types of rice other than the ones we normally eat, such as brown rice, wild rice and glutinous rice. The glutinous rice can be used to make desserts.

In one episode of a Japanese anime called "Yakitate Japan" (where the characters duel it out with skills in baking bread), the main character Kazuma used an electric rice cooker to "cook" a kind of bread which he called "Ja-pan #2". I've seen that episode myself and it even gives step-by-step instructions on how this seemingly impossible feat can be done with any electric rice cooker.

when u buy a rice cooker there is a recipe book provided along with it. check it out, gives simple recipes which have been tried & they are tasty & come out well too.

you can use it like a warmer for already cooked soups chilis and even bbqed chicken wings for parties but did you know you can even bake a cake in it ?yep i made a delicious pineapple upside down one in mine.
