I have red patches on my cheeks and nose. My dad has it too (much worse). What is it and how do I best treat it.

I am just looking for skin care basics.

Ps. Please don't send me to the doctor cause I got more important things to talk to my doctor about.

This redness sounds like rosacea, especially since your dad has it too. The cause is unknown, but it affects an estimated 14 million people, and in addition to the redness can cause the appearance of blood vessels, pimples and watery eyes. Fair skinned people have a greater risk of having rosacea. If this is, indeed, the problem, there are a number of topical medications that doctors use to control it. If you notice that your face is redder at some times more than others, you may have some environmental triggers that, if possible to avoid, may help lessen outbreaks. It is also important to have a very gentle skin cleansing routine - no harsh soaps or scrubbing, as this will make it worse. Good luck!

Without personally viewing these patches, actually honestly even if I did veiw them my knowledge would be slim to none, but I would suggest a: doctor, or dermatologist. I can suggest some ideas; however as to what these patches could be: acne (reasonable, however because of how common it is, you would probobaly know that was what it is already), rosacia, not sure if that is how you spell it, but it is a skin condition, most commonly compared to a red rash. Now another question is: does it itch, hurt, sting, burn, nothing just exist. The next question I would ponder upon is: How long have you had this redness and how long has your father? Has he ever been treated. If it really bothers you, I would suggest asking your father to get flesh samples tested, blood, or urine, what ever your doctor thinks best, and have the same test done yourself. Compare and find out if the redness is from the same thing or not.

Do you know what you have or what it's called?

There is a skin condition called "rosacea"...
"A chronic dermatitis of the face, especially of the nose and cheeks, characterized by a red or rosy coloration, caused by dilation of capillaries, and the appearance of acnelike pimples. Also called acne rosacea."

I'll post some links that you can visit:
http://www.skincarephysicians.com/rosaceanet/whatis.html
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/rosacea/DS00308
http://www.niams.nih.gov/hi/topics/rosacea/rosacea.htm

And since you say your father also has it, this is in one of the links:
"While the precise cause of rosacea remains a mystery, researchers believe that heredity and environmental factors are to blame. One explanation is that something causes the blood vessels to swell. The result, these scientists believe, is the flushing and redness characteristic of rosacea."

TREATMENT:
"Some doctors will prescribe a topical antibiotic, such as metronidazole, which is applied directly to the affected skin. For people with more severe cases, doctors often prescribe an oral (taken by mouth) antibiotic. Tetracycline, minocycline, erythromycin, and doxycycline are the most common antibiotics used to treat rosacea. The papules and pustules symptomatic of rosacea may respond quickly to treatment, but the redness and flushing are less likely to improve."

Good luck!

Once I had fifths diesease and they were just a bunch of itchy spots. The day before you might get these rosey red cheeks. You can't do anything to get rid of them they stay from 2 to 6 weeks and get worse in the sun. Stay away from pregnat women. Thats all I got.

Could be rosatia -sp? Or broken capularies which may be hereditary. You may have hereditary thin skin so yours shows up more. -which is weird cuz my mom now has it, too & we both use to have porcelain white, fair skin & no redness???? I got mine younger than she did. (Actually it seems more like a blushness of the whole face that doesn't really go away.) Could it be stress related, stress does stuff to your skin, too. Hmmm. Also, I got excema -sp? dry red scaley type of skin on my back between my shoulder blades after I got pregnant & the weird thing is it moved up & now is at my neck & back of my hairline. (no longer down closer to my shoulder blades but it'd clear up in the lower spots & the new spots would show up higher! ) I hope that doesn't come around & attack my face, too! ha ha

in case you have get entry to to bronzer, it doesnt look which you're wearing makeup regardless of the undeniable fact that it promises a organic glow and could in all probability conceal your redness? Toner is a very sturdy organic product which you are able to use to shrink redness. in case you cleans tone and moisturise daily you're able to observe a distinction.

there are several possible causes, including, among other things: rosacea, psoriasis and eczema.

Does it look bad or does it itch? You can probably get a cream!
