yeah he said he wants to break up with her because they live too far from each other, but he still likes her.
i'm just worried about jumping to conclusion, because he may just be spilling his personal life to me as a friedly gesture.

He likes you totally... BUt if he has a GF its just to be a friend unless hes loyal but hes obviously not whipped if hes stiil running around having feelings with other girls while he still has a GF.
If you get with him put him on the leash.
