Japan is certainly modern but not liberal from the political and societal points of view. South Korea is modern but the situation with North Korea makes it a very tense society. Thailand is easy going and modern to a degree but the society is still ultra conservative in terms of religion and the monarchy. Cambodia and Laos are easygoing but not yet modern. The Philippines is a little modern and quite easygoing but the rebellion in the Muslim South also makes it quite tense.
My favorite is Vietnam. It's modernizing and liberalizing very rapidly and it has no hang ups on many areas the other Asians are uptight about (religions, the monarchy, national identity...).
Having defeated much larger powers throughout its history, Vietnam has no inferiority complex. Religion has never been a big issue until the CIA made it one in the early 60's in the South to undermine the Diem regime. The monarchy is long gone and even the current big shots are not exempted from criticism by the press and the people.
Visit Vietnam! You'll love it there...

of course it would be the phillippines the exchange rate is high you get the most for our US doller yesterdays rate was 48.73 you will never in counter any more nicer people thin there in the philippines

I think it would have to be Japan. The Japanese are very personable, has no inferiority complex, dresses well and fashionably, values education, are smart and generally well adjusted people.
