The Universe and life itself is a complex infinite and at the moment beyond the realms of human understanding.

Science is in its nascent stages ( a few hundred years old) & is only at the door step of understanding our world and it could take another 10,000 to 20,000 years of relentless scientific study & analysis to arrive at the truth or a better understanding of our Universe.

Religon is 5,000 years old and in 5,000 years religon has not given any concrete answers to the mysteries of the Universe or life ......... the only answer to all mysteries is basically the sum of all mysteries OR one mystery called God. However as man attains greater consciousness and awarness, he is no longer content attributing the answer for all mysteries to one mysterious being called God.

Hence Science is the new Religon, and unfortunately this New Religon does not weave any fantastical stories to make you feel good ... i.e. (1) it does not tell you that God created you in HIS image (2) does not make you feel like the reason this world was made or that you are the centre of the universe (3) does not promise you a heaven with eternal happiness (4) does not tell you that the Creator actually needs for you to pray to him etc etc.

So this New Religon seems very factual, logical & very cold ......... it is exciting coz based on this new religon one day we may travel to the stars & discover new worlds , but it is also depressing & saddening coz we realise that after we die we will not go to a heaven, never hear of ourselves again & there is no God waiting for us in the after-life.

There are many faiths out there that have died for their beliefs because they conflicted with the rulers of their time. Even *gasp* Pagans! Jews were and are routinely slaughtered because they are Jews. Does this mean that their faith is more viable because of this? Not at all.

Just because people die for a belief doesn't make it true. The Nazi's were willing to die for their beliefs - does that mean that they were more correct? Or the radicals of Islam who blow themselves up for their faith - does this make them right? Because they were willing to die?

In all sad reality - very little is written about Jesus as a historical person outside of religious texts. He didn't rank up there. We have more on other Messianic figures of the time then we do on Jesus.

I don't beleive in Jesus for a variety of reasons. I don't question Pauls' faith, since he is the one that wrote a good portion of the NT. I know he believed in what he was saying - that more then likely he was sincere. But at the same time, that doesn't make it true.

There have always been morons who make stuff up so as to attract attention to them selves, the fact that they got the crap kicked out of them is irrelevant people make the wrong choices everyday and when you piss off the wrong person its gonna get ugly.

As to why they announced this new religion to the masses knowing full well the current regime would torture them? as i previously stated they were morons.

1.) It is may be that it was intended to be mythology like all the other mythologies--intended to teach people things.
2.) It is distinctly possible (even probable) that what the stories were intended to convey have been irreparably muddied.
3.) Their belief in it doesn't make it so. Only about 1/3 of the world's people are Christians. That means that approximately 2/3 of people do not believe that Jesus did "wat he did." By your logic, they must be correct--why would people make it up? Many of them, too, are persecuted for their beliefs.

A lot of people believe Elvis is still alive, that doesn't make it true. If anything, Jesus was a good magician, and the people of that time were more likely to believe his magic tricks to be miracles.

As painful as that was to read, right now people are dying so the U.S. can get oil for cheap.

People were naive then, and they are now. This isn't even close to proof. I do believe Jesus did live, but he was just a man, and his story became exaggerated by mankind.

Maybe you should put down the bible and pick up an English and Grammar textbook. It would certainly make your posts easier to read.

well if you believe everything you read then you'd believe that of course early christians were fed to the lions, scourged etc - a great piece of fiction to make people ask the kind of questions you are doing right here...clever huh?

Why would Joseph Smith make up the Mormon religion if he didn't see anything? Why would "Pastor Russell" start the Jehovah's Witnesses if he didn't see anything? Why would L. Ron Hubbard make up Scientology if he didn't see anything?

Get the picture??
