You can aquire defunct plates at a junk yard but why would you want to? The plate is not legal and if you put it on your car that is a crime. If you collect them it's a great place to find them but do the right thing and obey the laws.

Ask your state's licensing agency, they are happy to give plates to collector's. If you request old personalized plates, that can make a fun collection. Good luck, it's free also!

automotive swap meets generally run about $10.00 a plate.
