Any wild bird that is a meat eater and has talons and a beak for tearing meat apart is dangerous .If its attacked and has no choice but to defend itself .Or if you try to handle it with out thick leather gloves .As far as an owl attacking a person ,no they wont attack people or animals to big to eat .Unless protecting their nest or some thing of that nature .

Dangerous or not they are wild animals and should be treated as such. I found a Great Horned Owl baby in the middle of the street and in order to keep it from being run over I caught the bird and called my vet. In the State of Texas there is a $500.00 per day fine for keeping this type of owl as it was considered endangered at the time. I was given info for an org. called Phoenix Bird Rehab. who came a got the Owl and made sure that he (or she) was raised correctly and returned to the wild.

Are owls dangerous to humans? Probably not if you're just walking down the street observing them in the trees.

However, I wouldn't recommend strolling up to one and asking it for a light. If you find an injured one, call a local wildlife rescue facility to help you. If you absolutely need to pick one up, go with super-thick leather gloves, lots and lots and lots of towels, and just put it in a box until you can get it to people who handle them.

We had a wildlife owl come through our clinic a few weeks ago and when one of the techs was putting it back in the incubator, it got him with one of it's talons... went straight through the finger, to the bone. He had to get over $600 worth of medical services (exam, follow-up exam, tetanus vaccine, etc.)

You have to watch the talons on an owl, not so much the beak (it can still pinch ya though!)

They aren't if they are handled properly. Large european eagle owl can get a strong as small golden eagles, and will kill small dogs and cats and can seriously injure adults.

if you are the prey of an owl such as a small rodent or other small mammal, then yes. If you are a human, which I presume you are...then no.

If you are a mouse then 'yes', it's time to worry. I don't think you are a mouse - or any another species of rodent - so I wouldn't worry. Chill.
