he loves to lay on my chest, but he's always getting up, kneeding my shirt, and laying back down again, only to be up and doing it all over again a few seconds later. why does he do this, purring while he's doing so?why does he only do it while i'm at my computer desk at home?

It's just his feline way of making sure that you, the stupid human, are as inconvenienced by his pressence as possible! lol Maybe he just likes feeling you up, I dunno... :P

My 8 year old cat still does that, that's how they get milk from their mothers and I guess the reason why they still do it as they get older is instinct.
He's probably most comfortable when your sitting at the computer desk. My youngest cat, Shadow only comes to me when I'm on my computer also.

HE LOVES YOU! It's that simple. That and the fact that he wants your attention. I have a cat that will jump a four foot divider (she' almost 20 pounds) just to be with me. She gets right on my chest and her face is millimeters from my face and she purrs for hours. It just means that they love you. Nothing wrong with the cat.
