It depends on why you aren't sending the child. It isn't required that a child go to kindergarden. Sometimes they aren't ready and sometimes you can teach them more at home. Some kindergarden programs are great and some are lacking and boring for smarter kids.

Some children are not ready for kindergarten. Some need to wait a year or so to enter school.
I believe the law is that you do not have to enroll your child in formal education until they are six. You may need to check with your state to see if that is the case, all states may not be the same.
Compulsory School Age = for California.
"between the ages of 6" by December 2 and "under 18 years of age"
You could home-school your child, until they are you are ready.
Good luck.

Contrary to popular belief, kindergarten is NOT mandatory in all states. I live in CA, and kindergarten is not mandatory here. It is estimated that about 75% of children of kindergarten age attend kindergarten here. However, I would definitely send my child to kindergarten- the standards that kindergarteners are required to meet are excessive... they must know all letters and sounds, be able to read (not fluently), and know numbers up to 100, and write their letters and numbers. This is a lot, considering that such a small percentage of children have attended preschool before they attend kindergarten (about 20%). There can be as much as 5 YEARS in cognitive difference between children who have attended quality preschool and those who have had no education until kindergarten. Considering the standards that kindergarteners are required to meet, first grade would be much harder for a child who has neither attended preschool nor kindergarten. Since kindergarten is not mandatory however, it cannot be considered neglect to not send them. However, I would think it quite unwise and against the progress of your child's education to not send them to kindergarten. Wouldn't you want the best educational start for your child?

I don't really know the legallities everywhere obviously but I personally was taken out of Kindergarten. My mother thought that the fact that my teacher constantly swore in front of the children, and would not let the children go to the bathroom was worse than being at home and learning in a nurturing environment. I guess it really all depends on why you don't want to send your child.

It would be very dependent on the given situation. What would be the reason not to ? A sick parent who can't get the child there ? Or ??? Kindergarten is good for the child for transition into real academic learning in 1st grade and on, but if there are extenuating circumstances, the child will survive.

I think so. I teach first grade and I've had kids who didnt go to kinder. Kinder is where they learn thier ABC's and all so we expect first graders to know it already. When they come in w/o that knowledge it is already setting them up for failure as most first grade classes review letter/sounds but dont spend the whole year teaching it like they do in kinder. Long story short-send your kid to kindergarten.

After reading the typo errors in your question, perhaps you should re-think and send your child to kindergarten. It cannot hurt and will actually help to get him/her ready for 1st grade.

Yes. All children have to be registered for school or be home schooled. Why would anyone not want their child to learn?

Yes, and you are also defying the law because all children have to stay in school until they are 16 years old, minimum.

No, but it could put them behind both academically and socially. It is a really good STARTER for children to get use to being in school.
