I replaced my 97 Olds Cutlass with a 98 Cutlass after the 97 was totalled in a wreck. I

I kept the key fobs, and I wondered if I could program them myself, or if I need go to the dealership and pay them to do it.

It would be nice to have a couple extra key fobs, just in case.

Thanks for the help

Transmitter Programming
A remote door lock receiver may have up to 4 different transmitters programmed. You may program a transmitter to more than one vehicle providing the remote keyless entry systems are similar. When reprogramming one transmitter, reprogram any and all other transmitters (maximum of 4 total per receiver) at the same time in order for the other transmitters to work.

Important
Leave a window down in the vehicle while reprogramming the remote control door lock receiver system. This procedure will avoid an unintentional lock out if the reprogramming is not performed properly.

Turn the ignition off.
Ground the receiver program terminal. Jump the 2 terminals located in the program ground connector.
Within 2 seconds the door locks will lock. The unlock and the rear compartment lid release will produce a cycle, causing the horn to chirp. This indicates that the module is ready for reprogramming.
Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time until the door locks lock and unlock. The rear compartment lid release releases and the horn sounds indicating that the transmitter has successfully been reprogrammed (approximately 12 seconds).
Repeat the previous step for the remaining transmitters.
Remove the jumper at the program connector.
Verify the proper operation of each transmitter.
The programming connector is taped into the harness on the right side of the trunk, at the top rear of the wheel well.

Some of these cars have interchangeable key fobs, but don't count you chickens yet. To try to program the fods you will have to enter the programming portion of the keyless entry system. Sometimes the entry to this is easy and others are not. Look in the trunk around the latch area or behind either side carpet in the sides of the fenders. If there is a programming wire, it will be hanging around this area. If it is here, simply ground the wire and the system will enter programming mode by firing the locks. Now just hit the unlock button of a fob and if it programs the locks will fire. Keep entering each fob until you have all of them. Some of these cars had to enter programming by jumping the two outer connectors on the OBD connection under the drivers area footwell. The same thing will happen as previously described. If you have problems, visit a dealership as we used to do this FOC when I worked there. Good luck.
