I am very good about picking up after my dog, even in my own yard. But how do you handle it if you're walking your dog and it gets diarrhea? It can't be picked up in a bag, so what is the proper way to handle this? Leave it? Cover it with leaves?

This happened once, and my dog did not have diarrhea before I took him on the walk. So this was not something I was aware of before we left.

Bring a bottle of water and rinse it away. If your dog doesn't get the runs , at least now you have a drink in case you or the dog gets thirsty.

Leave it. Don't cover it or someone might step in it and it will look as if you're trying to get out of picking up after your dog. It happens, just try not to walk far from home when he's like that.

Use the pickup bag to try and scoop up as much of it as you can, then cover the rest of it with leaves or dirt. It's kind of like picking up a broken egg... a bit of a pain, but you should never just leave it.

You may want to avoid taking your dog for a walk if he has diarreah but if you must take him you should cover it with dirt. Talk to your vet about it. You don't want your dog to give another dog something if your dog happens to have diarreah because he has a contagious illness.

You could cover it with leaves, if you can find any. Sand or dirt would be good to use. As far as picking it up, I'd have to say, there isn't any good way to do that. Sorry, I couldn't tell you more.

I would say don't take your dog for a walk while it has the runs, just run with him/her in the backyard until he/she doesn't have such a loose stool any more. The take him/her for walks and clean up after him/her.

Leave it. There is nothing you can do about this.
