The average Civil Service test is designed to be passed by a person with a minimal education. Please don't mistake this as a racist remark, but it was designed to allow more minorities to pass. What comes after the test is the hard part. Most major Police departments require 60 college credits and a physical Agility test and a Psychological evaluation. If you have scored high enough on the written and pass all the other obstacles then you go into the Academy for training. The Academy is hard and requires that you pass both academically and physically. If you fail in the Academy you are out. If you pass then you get to work all kinds of hours and weekends and holidays and deal with all kinds of abuse just for doing your job. You won't be paid enough either. Getting in is the easy part. Wondering why you ever did it is the difficult part.

Depends on which state you are looking to be a cop in. Most have several tests you need to take and pass. In Iowa we take a physical agility test (1.5 mile timed run, 1 min sit ups, 1 min push ups, and a sit and reach evaluation), then a written test (POST test) which tests your reading, math, writing, and spelling skills. After that you go through an interview in front of several officers. Then a polygraph test and a doctor physical. Plus they conduct an extensive backround investigation on you. This is for IA though. Not sure but I think most other states are like this. Some sort of agility test and a written test.

Becoming a cop puts you in a world / existence of your own. its one of a couple of professions that inhibit potential new friendships & relationships. just remember, most people dont want to hang around cops unless they are cops. Great job but your world may become a hell of a lot smaller.

You need more skill and knowledge to be a state officer..If you are trying to work in a small community, then its fairly simple ,and most people with a degree can become one.
