As people age, they get more commitments that wear them out without being good for them. Work, Kids, etc. No time for exercise either and very little structured sport other than the kind that involves saturday afternoons on the couch in front of the box. Subsequently, people are surprised that they don't have as much energy as they did when they were young.
While there is certainly a level of physiological effect which will mean that an athletic 87 year old will always be hard pressed to beat a 17 year old in a 100 yard dash, You can increase your energy level by increasing your energy expenditure. I recently restarted gymnastics, a high intensity sport that I quit when I was 16. Sure enough, my energy levels have been dramatically increasing since I got back into it, alleviating my nagging fears about "getting old"
Keep playing like a kid and you won't have any problems.

Depends on many factors. Different for each individual.
I had a great friend, jogged and was very active in the community and just dropped dead one morning - poof gone, he was 82.
I am very active and strong, pushing 56. I kayak, walk miles, do some serious kite flying, gardening, do lot of projects around the house, husband is into kite surfing, we are doing some kite sailing with a cat vessel this summer. Never ends!!
The more you move around and keep mind and body active, the more energy you will have.
Thank you for asking.

Nope I didn't lose energy, just momentum. Had to slow down so the kids could keep up.
