Hi there, i own a pigeon that has recently developed a yawning habit, could it have canker in its throat that is troubleing it? only people that own [pigeons] need advice! thank you

That's one possibility. Depending on where you live, you may be able to get hold of pills in a tropical fish store that they sell for hole-in-the-head disease. It's the same drug that you use for canker (trichomoniasis).

Obviously, it's impossible for anyone to diagnose totally accurately over a computer line, but birds with canker will often do that yawning, especially if they have it in the throat area.

I've also seen a similar type of yawning in very fat birds that seem to have trouble breathing because of the fat build up around their air sacs, etc.

There have been a few other reasons I've seen over the years as well.

If you can get your bird tested by a vet, great --- the sad truth is though that most vets know next to nothing about pigeons.

Here is a site you can read about canker.. Some bird yawn to scratch there ears. Does your bird have any problems drinking or eatting.

You are best to take him in to an avain vet.

if it isnt canker make sure u vaccinate against it just incase cos it easy 2 do and can save u alot of heartache
