No.. You can't DOS is the original programming that runs in the background. If you go to your accessories and go to the command prompt, that is your DOS section. If you are old school, you can do almost everything from that prompt. Windows just makes everything easier for us.

When you get that message it means that whatever program you're trying to use is only operable from a version of Windows. DOS, or more accurately MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System) is an early operating system that was quite popular for years to run many programs, including Office utilities such as Word, or early computer games, etc. Once the Windows system, which showed a GUI (Graphic User Interface) became the standard for pc users, DOS took on less and less of a role. So, it's not that you can "disable" DOS, it's just that many programs won't run under DOS. Hope this helps.

Not really windows is a graphical shell on top of DOS, which actually does all the work. You probably have a DOS Icon on your programs. You can also run DOS by holding F8 while starting the computer, then choose DOS mode. Then type a DOS command like SCAN/RESTOE where you can restore the computer to an earlier date.:)
