Is it the Christian or the non-Christian? Remember blessed are the meek.

On another note, is the "yoke" a good symbol for marriage?

It means you should be like-minded when it comes to spiritual things. Marriage works best when the husband and wife have share the same faith. For instance, if a strict Christian were to marry a strict Jew, there could potentially be some serious issues such as what faith to raise their children. It has no bearing on physical strength. But regarding your question of "yoke" being a good symbol for marriage, yes it is. If you yoke a horse and an ox together, it would be very uncomfortable for both animals and it would also be unproductive. But if you yoke two oxen (is that grammatically correct?) together, they work side by side in harmony with each other...just as spouses should do.

In The Bible unequally yoked is an example . If 2 oxen are yoked together to plow a field and one wants to go to the left and the other wants to go to the right , they are considered unequally yoked . and there will be nothing good out of the pairs efforts !! Just as humans ` can be unequally yoked in their beliefs . A Christian and an atheist is the perfect example of two people being " unequally yoked ! Christian wants to obey God , atheist doesn`t ??

The yoke is a symbol of a who has control over your life... who you are paying the most attention to. When an ox is yoked, it is with one other ox, and they are attached to some device. If the oxen decide that they want to go in 2 directions, neither is going to go anywhere with that device (like a relationship). This would be unequally yoked. When both oxen are moving in the same direction, moving as if they were one ox with 2X the power, then the device (relationship) is going to go forward. Second question: Yoke is a good symbol for marriage. When 2 ppl get married, they "Become one in flesh". Same analogy as the yoke. The oxen become as if they are one ox with 2X the power. A married couple is like one person with 2X the mental/ physical/ spiritual...etc. power.

Unequally yoked implies an inequality in the partners - not necessarily in strength, but perhaps in intelligence, in street smarts, in culture, in background, in earning capacity, in temperment or in any of a thousand other possibilities.
The yoke isn't generally thought of as a symbol for marriage, but it does imply that both partners make an equal contribution - not necessarily an identical contribution, but a significant contribution to the total effort. But it denies either partner the freedom or flexibility that should exist in a good marriage.

This passage LITERALLY means that Christians SHOULD NOT get married to NON CHRISTIANS. {Paul} Re-iterates that marriage in and of itself is hard enough, without having the battle over how to raise the kids. These ARE VERY EVIDENT TRUTHS!!!

The "yoke" symbolically is good. Think back to when JESUS speaks of us given our burdens on over to Him....."Take my yoke upon you and learn of ME; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find REST for your soul. For MY yoke is easy; and my burden is light." Mt 11:29

BUT THEN......

1 a : a wooden bar or frame by which two draft animals (as oxen) are joined at the heads or necks for working together b : an arched device formerly laid on the neck of a defeated person c : a frame fitted to a person's shoulders to carry a load in two equal portions d : a bar by which the end of the tongue of a wagon or carriage is suspended from the collars of the harness e (1) : a crosspiece on the head of a boat's rudder (2) : an airplane control operating the elevators and ailerons f : a frame from which a bell is hung g : a clamp or similar piece that embraces two parts to hold or unite them in position
2 plural usually yoke : two animals yoked or worked together
3 a (1) : an oppressive agency (2) : SERVITUDE, BONDAGE b : TIE, LINK; especially : MARRIAGE
4 : a fitted or shaped piece at the top of a skirt or at the shoulder of various garments

We can see from Christ Jesus, and from the very definition of the WORD "YOKE".....that it can be
a burden
uneven
heavy
............HOW THEN CAN TWO WALK TOGETHER LEST THEY BE AGREED!?

Hope this helps.
GOD BLESS you!!><>

Yes it does and also a Christian and a non-Christian. Let's say that you have two cows in on yoke. One cow is learned in plowing and the other is not. Because you have them both in the same yoke, the one that is learned in plowing will do more work than the one than is unlearned. Not only will he do more work but he will also have to keep the other one in line when he tries to do something other than their intended purpose. Same thing. May God Bless U.

you want to be yoked with someone who is going to the same place as you. To be like minded and carry the burden together bring rest in two rather than one

Guess which is supposed to be the christian in these comparisons:

light versus darkness
righteous versus un-righteous

Now, guess for yourself who is the better part of unequally yoked

It just means that they will not be spiritually bonded together. Has nothing to do with being stronger or greater then the other.

It means that you have different ideas on things such as God. Christians should not marry non believers because it will give the devil a foothold to blow your happiness!
