I have been looking from Santa Monica to Long Beach and anywhere in between. I've heard E. LA, W. Hollywood, Echo Park, Silver Lake, Los Feliz. Looking for a 2BR apt. around $1800 or less, but in an area that is easy to find jobs and fun for someone in their upper 20's. Any advice on anything in California would be great!!! I, myself, have never been there. I have an awesome resume and cover letter, any help there would be fantastic also!

Oh my gosh, it is 13 miles from Hollywood to the closest beach (at Santa Monica) and exactly half way there is Beverly Hills...so that would be the "best city to live". But I would try Westwood near UCLA, B. H. can be a little bit of pricey place to live...

I grew up in South Gate California and then Seal Beach during the 70's and 80's, I have to periodically go back to visit my father, uncle, brother who still live there. To be quite honest, I will never ever go back to live there. The freeway system is unbelievably bad! You will quickly find out that the freeway system is the only way to get around and it is always jammed with traffic.
I also have a hard time believing that you will find any apartment for as little as $1800 a month in any of the Beach Cities or any of the adjacent Cities. You MIGHT get lucky and find a place that cheap in Huntington Park, Glendale, South Gate, Lynwood, Compton, Ingelwood, but GOD Bless you if you live in any of those cities and you're not wearing bulletproof armor.
The cities that are adjacent to the Beach Cities are Los Alamos, Westminster, Lakewood, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Costa Mesa,
It might seem by looking at a map that all these cities are close, but you will find out that California is HUGE! And, the only way to get from City to City is the Freeway or the Light Rail system. And like I said, it's not easy trying to commute.
Also, I don't know if you are aware, but Southern California is very very Hispanic. I am half Mexican(father is Mex, mother is white) and even I find it un-nerving being there because it seems like I have left America and am living in some Mexican province.
I now live in a suburb of Phoenix Arizona. I have seen hundreds of Southern Californians leave and move to Arizona because of all the illegals living there (it's over crowded, and full of crime)(Southern Califonia that is) (Northern is WAY Better!)
Sorry that I have nothing nice to say about Southern Cali. !!

I lived one bock from the beach in Venice for a few years. That's right by Santa Monica (lived there too). Venice was nice but a little pricey. East L.A., Hollywood, Echo Park, Silver Lake, none of those are anywhere near the water. Silver Lake is also pricey, and it's quite an outing to get to the Pacific from there. El Segundo is one you haven't mentioned. It is just south of LAX and may have some reasonably priced apartments in your price range. I would recommend somewhere in northern California, though, if you like the ocean. Or even Oregon. Hollywood is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. But I understand it has to be in an area where there are cities and jobs.

check out Plams, mar vista sections of LA. Lots of UCLA and SMC students and recent grads. less expensive than venice or santa monica but near enough to the beach and the rest of the west side. Hollywood is hard to get to unless you live right by it. You could look at west hollywood or hancok park area but they will be a bit pricy. but then you would be far from the beach. try to live near your job so that you dont spend so much time in the car

Maybe Central California. In a rural city. Southern California is hot during the summer, but very nice weather at all other times. So, if heat isn't your thing, I'd stay away from there.

If you are looking for a hip, happening ( for a lack of better words) young place to live, try Silverlake, Echo Park, West Hollywood, Hancock Park, Los Feliz....all these places are in the middle of it all and great for people who are transplants looking to start a career.

If an affordable beach area is most important, you should look into residing in Oxnard's Hollywood Beach area which has a beautiful broad beach with hardly anyone around. Hollywood beach is about 60 miles north of Hollywood and is one of the better well kept secrets around. Please don't tell too many people about this.

I found a mobile home park very nice at top of Topanga. The areas that you mention are a little noisy for me. But some people like the noise and the hassle.

If you've never been to California, I'd suggest going on a trip down there, and actually seeing for yourself which areas you actually like.
