My distant neighbor has a baby kitten aprox 4 months of age. They are neglecting it, and it isnt getting enough food. Basically its eating from the garbage outside, and begging neighbors for food. She even left it outside during a really bad snow storm-when the news insisted all animals be kept indoors because they will freeze to death.

The kitten is elft outdoors 24/7, and it is not even fixed either. There are thousands of stray s beating on it all day..

I want to take the kitten, and give it away to someone who will care for it properly without letting them know it was me. Where we are they dont enforce the law about these types if crimes. In order for her to get in troubel she'd have to have like 20 of them in bad shape at the same time. I,e Hoarding them.

Is is wrong? Is it my place to save this kitten? Or should I mind my own business?

I let it inside to eat everynight now since I relized it doesnt eat on a regular basis. I cant leave the kitten in the house in the night though because I have a housecat that isnt to friendly with other kittys.

My kitty is acting as if he likes the new kitten, but I dont want to chance it considering my cat is like 14lbs and the kitten being like 3-4lbs?

The kitten has no tags, and is unfixed. As far as i'm concerned theres no way to prove ownership of the kitten anyways.

Also the poor kitten ranks of cigarette smoke so bad. If the poor kitten smells this bad, imagine how their kids our living when there indoors!

I have talked to the owner and she said that she doesnt allow the cats to come in doors. When I asked her how the kitten eats or drinks she replied well its been raining!

It is never wrong to do the right thing, but the truth though is for every decision you make you must count the cost. The owners do not sound as if they even care, but they may have kids who do. So I would just start caring for the kitty and if it comes up be honest with the person about the situation. Tell them you saw the kitty one night in the cold and it followed you home and it was too cold to leave out. You began to feed it and well it adopted you. Cats go to who feeds and loves them so this is not a stretch. If this were me, and I have been in your shoes, that kitty would be mine. I would find a way for your cat and the kitty to meet and greet. If they are acting like friends now that is a good sign. Can the kitty stay in the garage or maybe a utility room or bathroom at night while you are not able to supervise the two? I would only give the kitty away to someone I knew would take as good of care if not better than yourself. One way or the other the kitty would be taken care of, because otherwise I would not be able to sleep at night...Please, please do the right thing...just be prepared for the decision..you may end up having to keep the kitty yourself...

Please help that baby-not doing it would be the wrong thing.

If you think you might like to keep it, you could try introducing it to your kitty slowly. You can put the kitten in a separate room with the door shut and they can still smell each other and see if they'll get used to each other. Gradually you can let the two be around each other when you are present or put the small kitty in a kennel or carrier and see how they interact. You didn't say the sex of the kitten but often a cat will accept a kitten of either sex because it's too young to be a threat. Be sure to give equal attention to both.
Or just find the baby a good home and bless you for caring.

Well, although it's not yours and you could get in trouble if you were caught, I would feel the same way and wouldn't be able to stand thinking about a kitten being treated like that and I'd probably take it. Perhaps it's not actually their kitten, but either way, if you're positive it's not being cared for, take it before it dies (just don't give it to a shelter where they will euthanize it if it doesn't get a home). I'm sure a lot of people will say to mind your own business, but sometimes doing the right things means not minding your own business. Save the kitty!

Thats how I got my cat.
I was friends with a girl and her sister's cat had kittens and she gave one to the neighbor. Well they did all the same things, no food, left him outside ect. So the sister stole the kitty back one night.
I was at the house a few days later and the kitty would not leave me alone. So now he is mine...4 years later and I love him so much.
I would take the kitten away and find a home for him.I have hearing about people who don't take care of thier pets.

I have taken in numbers of stray cats over the years. I would personally take this kitten in to my home and care for it until it was healthy enough for adoption. If I could not care for the kitten I would take it to a "No Kill" shelter.

I highly recommend that you go ahead and take the kitten. Especially if the kitten is being mis-treated.

The only way they could find you guilty of stealing this kitten is if the family can prove ownership of it. Which would mean they have to cough up vet bills, microchip papers, adoption papers, and so on.

If they are otherwise good people, I do suggest you ask them to take the kitten off their hands.

Good luck.

I would call animal control it is abuse. If you decide to take the cat before you bring it near your cat you have to get it checked for feline lukemia and aids, or you are putting your pet at risk. It is a sad thing when owners dont take responsibility for a life. I was in the flood of the delaware river and one owner left there cat in the house as the river was overflowing its banks I heward it hollowing all night. Went down to save him but the river was already engulfing the house. But by the grace of God he made it went down when the river went down the cat was muddy and wet but alive. The owners left him there in a bathroom so it wasnt like they could not find him. Some folks should be ashamed of themselves not to mention the up to 15 cats I was feeding for all the strays after the flood. They keep reproducing. Sad situation. Help the cat out report the person.

I say take the kitten. I had a friend who went through something very similar. Another friend of ours got a kitten. The trouble was...their dog was mauling it, and they just didn't take good care of it. They didn't buy it kitten food, it had to share with the dog. He was acting all listless and hiding all the time. My friend was really concerned about the kitten, and she asked them to take it to the vet. They agreed and then changed their minds. So when she came over to visit the next day, she took the kitten. She brought it to the vet. It needed medicine and shots. The vet had her get special food for the kitten and stuff to help it go to the bathroom because it was so constipated as well as dehydrated. They told her she saved that cat and strongly recommended she NOT take it back.
She lost a friendship over it, but she says she doesn't regret saving that kitten one bit.

Toture the owner and make her feel bad. If you dont i will. I hate people that treat animals carelessly. Take the kitty. Keep it for a while and see how you're cat likes it. The kitty will grow really fast and then maybe they will get along. Trust me it will be worth it. You cant sit around and watch that cat be tortured and starved. Its your right as a humane person to take care of it. If she isnt going to and has no worry about it then she wouldnt mind if you took it. Do it. For the little kitty. It deserves better.

If you are willing and able to provide a loving and safe home for the kitty, then i say GO FOR IT! That's how I usually acquire my pets. I save them from horrible people that don't deserve animals or children for that matter. Your older cat will eventually adapt. You might have some territorial issues, but it will become evident who the boss is between the two. It's either they love each other or they'll just tolerate each other's presence. Either way, they both love you.

We have the same problem in my neighborhood if you cant have a cat at your house just feed it on your door step eventualy the cat will think it lives at your house thats what i did. there is about 3 cats that come and go. i live in wyo. and winter is very cold the cats seem to be just fine with it. one fluffy cat seems to like the cold and snow. dont worry cats are survivors. one thing you should do is catch it and have it spayed so that arent more homeless little kittys. good luck!!! hope the best. ps dont worry it is your business cats are everyones friend even if the so called owners arent friends
