Can evolutionary theory account for this seeming anomaly?
Thanks.

Hugh, I'm not "in denial" about anything, and I'm non-partisan in the Creation/evolution debate. I just asked a question; I don't have an ax to grind. You certainly do jump to conclusions at the drop of a hat, don't you?

The human brain is not all used for cognitive thought but is all used for other purposes of control and monitoring. If the brain is damaged there is always some loss of function although not necessarily in the areas of conscious thought.
The beauty of the brain is that it is capable of reprogramming in the same way a computer is. I don't see this as evidence of a God unless we hold God responsible for IBM.
As you rightly say, it is only a seeming anomaly rather than a real one.

Ever wonder where all those things go you had to remember for a little while, then didn't need any more? Like old laundry lists, grocery lists, every billboard you ever saw. That's what's in the "unused" part of your brain.

Perhaps you could explain something to me though, since you seem to be in denial about the theory of evolution. I had a fellow ranting at me the other day about how the theory of evolution is all falsehood, then argued wholeheartedly in favor of what is called "Social Darwinism". How can one do that with a straight face?

It's not an anomaly. It's backup in case part of the brain ceases to function due to trauma or old age.
It's the same with your computer . It needs more capacity than you can fill or you have to go and buy some extra memory

We also have five times the kidney function. We have reserves that time taps. We use the brain diffusely and have a limited capacity to recover in the event of regional damage. You cannot find any unused areas.

Cause God put some extra in our heads, and why did he do that when we never used it?

Also he put rudimentary hind limbs on the embryos of whales and dolphins, and they appear and then disappear, and I asked God why he did that, and he wouldn't say.

God put a lot of extra stuff on us, like hair that stands up for no reason when you get goose bumps. It serves a purpose on lower mammals, but no purpose on humans... I asked God about that too.

God did all kinds of things to make it look like evolution is true. I am truly perplexed, my child.

Perhaps Satan had a hand in it. Perhaps Satan and God have a wager going on.

Whenever I contemplate such a thing I collapse on the floor crying "Lord have mercy" and then I start pounding on the floor and the walls.

I fear I'm going berserk, all because of these biological problems.

Actually you do use all your brain capacity. The story about just using 10% is an urban legend.

Theory is theory.
Helping us to understand things better.
Fact is things are changing for better say evolving for better and better, consequently, theories are behind time in a timeless zone.
So, be happy that we have so much work to do and the evolved brain. Enlightened one.

because the idea that 90% of our brain is doing nothing (or whatever you prefer) is nonsense. Urban myth. Stuff for gullible fools to repeat over and over again.

Feel free to lobotomize yourself for 90% and prove me wrong.

I'm not a Evolutionist but I see no evidence that evolution can explain this. Oh and we do not use all of our brain power (We only have one brain not brains...). we use a very small percentage of our brain
