Honestly, I would only be subtle for a little bit. If he's not smart enough to figure it out, he'll need you to be more straight-forward to know that you are interested, and if he's just not interested, then you'll know immediately.
Start off with simple things like asking how his days are, initiating subtle physical contact like hugs and such, talking to him more and more each time you do talk, and having more serious conversations in general. Maybe ask him to hang out sometime with a group, and if you have fun in that situation, ask him to hang out alone.
If he doesn't get the idea after all that, just tell him how you feel. That's a sure way to figure out if it will work out.

Lol. Well im not a girl, but if i thought a girl was hinting me, I might see if she looks at me alot, if you want to be more up front though maybe ask him for something, If your in school ask him for notes or if he'd like to study after school or something. Lol. I think the easyest way (Cuase us guys are slow) is ask how he feels about you. Lol. Usaly that'll make us think. If he says he likes you, tell him how you feel. Good luck.

Why be subtle? Tell the guy you find him interesting. Guys can be pretty dense about hints. They don't get it.

try to keep eye contact with him for a while and go up to him and hug him for no reason. Ask how his day was every day, and flirt with him. Make sure to lay on the clues thick because some guys are dumb when it comes to this stuff (I know I'am). Before you know it he will love you and want to hold your hand (or something like that).
