Well Mikeysco gets my vote yet again.
As an officer your right, I don't care about a little personal use of Marijuana, but like Mikeysco stated in order to get that personal amount you had to be supporting one of those category's that we don't care for.
I have stopped lots of vehicles and have come across lots of Marijuana. From a usable amount left in a blunt to over 4 ounces packaged and ready for sale. The cool thing about Marijuana is it's odor. It is very difficult to mask, and that odor gives officers probable cause to search your vehicle on a traffic stop. I tend to give you a chance when you get stopped and I smell the odor to come clean. if it's just a personal amount and you give it up now before I search, I'm just going to have you destroy it in front of my in car camera. If I have to go into the car and find it, because you insist it's not there then you will go to jail.
On the other hand, I have noticed time and time again that if they have Marijuana then they probably have something else wrong with them too. I have searched several cars on the odor of Marijuana and have found coke, crack, X, and firearms. So for that reason alone, I love Marijuana. It's Great Probable Cause.

I agree with Mikeyco post completely. I have made people dump what they have on them which seemed to do more damage than an arrest. I have called parents and shown them what little Johnny was smoking. It all depends on the person doing the stop and the person being stopped. If you are a jerk then I would toss you for residue. If you were cool and worthy of a second chance then you get to toss it out. If you have a high times Tshirt on, a wallet on a chain with a leaf stamped on it, a weed necklace and roach clips all over your jacket - I think I am arresting you.

If you really knew what it did to you, you might think twice. Then again, people who habitually smoke it aren't the most excellent judges of its effects since they are in the midst of it.
I have seen my own family members suffer from what it did to their lives, sickness, criminal record, etc.
The main reason for having it stay illegal is to have some mechanism to get people into treatment when they don't think it is a problem. Just ask yourself would you want a doctor doing brain surgery on you after smoking a few joints? Hmm.... doesn't sound too good to most, but they go out and drive a car when they are stoned.
Just food for thought, I usually did arrest for marijuana, let them deal with the consequences of what they chose to do. Don't like the laws, fight to change them.

It's against the law for a reason. Most depts officers work for have strict guidelines on arrests and will hammer officers if they overlook stuff like that. My opinion is if you have it, I am arresting you for it. So lesson is if you are a pot head, leave it at home.

A good police officer should not do their job based on their personal viewpoint but the law. Weed is against the law.

Depends on the cop. Some do it just to be...err...jerks regardless of whether or not they care....some don't care and would rather not see it due to paperwork involved...others do because they want to do their job correctly.
Depends on the cop...
YOu always have good cop bad cop.
Some also take into consideration the amount that is found.

Whatever you do at home, then fine, but once you hit the streets under the infulence and endanger the public, then I get pissed, and if caught,, you will get locked up. If a person wants to get drunk, stoned, shoot up, or whatever, then the hell with it, and do it behind closed doors and "stay put", but people who choose to do these things are stupid (most of them) and hit the streets, and thats were I get pissed.
