May the peace, blessings and mercy of God be upon you

I am a born American, to Pakistani immigrants (my father came to do a Ph.D in the 1980's). I know live in Canada.

Although I have never lived under a Shariah Law system, I believe that there are both good and bad things about the Law system, as derived by the opinions of the scholars of Islamic Jurisprudence.

I however completely agree with the laws stated clearly in the Qu'ran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him.

I think if we had a moral backbone in our society in North America, then we would have a better society. More functional marriages, less substance abuse, teen pregnancy, theft etc..

I also believe that the prohibitions that God stated in the Qu'ran (such as forbidding Alcohol/Gambling) and other vices such as adultery/fornication should be abided by, even if there is no fear of immediate punishment.

What I mean is that, I abstain from such things, because I try to have God-Consciousness, and know that he is watching me. Not because If I got caught fornication with a girl from my University I would be lashed in public 100 times (the punishment in Shariah Law).

I currently studying Qu'ran Tafseer (explanation and commentary a 4000+ page volume from the 14 century by the Damascus Scholar Ibn Kathir). I God willing after that will studying the Hadith books of Sahih Bukhari and Muslim, and may the other Sunan Compilers. And after I have knowledge of the religion from the proper sources, God willing I will study Islamic Jurisprudence, and use the intellect God has given me to apply in such a way that is appropriate for our times (such as allowing DNA evidence to constitute the 4 witnesses needed in a rape case).

Peace Be With You

The LAW of the land you live in should prevail. If you chose an Islamic nation, you chose Sharia law. If you chose another nation, you should accept their law, otherwise you are like the man in the opening of the Godfather, asking the Don to kill someone because man's law has failed you. At that point you go against the SOCIETY YOU live in and become CONTRARY to public policy. You, in short, become a criminal seeking criminal sanctions.

Those who CAN'T accept other people's ways, shouldn't go there!

If you're going their to CHANGE their ways, you are an invader. The Qur'an says INVADERS are to be punished or killed or irradicated.

i think Jail did not stop crime to decline, but to increase.

those who rape banks or gas stations are putting people life in danger, those who steal credit cards and people money are also stealing people life, the life of those people which spend at working everyday and bring this money to their families. i don't think jail is enough.
