Some people it helps with the closer. Maybe they asked first or were asked I hope. I know it sound weird to you, but when you lose someone you love you try to hold on to every last second. They were trying to help your hubbys aunt family in their time of need and the days that are going to follow. I hope this helps. I wish I had pictures of my Mom.

I went to a funeral once where someone was taking pictures of the coffin, it was a closed one just the picture of the deceased and flowers about. It bothered me greatly that day, and I thought I wouldn't want anyone to take pictures of me at my funeral.Looking at dead people ,love ones or any one else isn't my thing. To me it is showing no respect for the person, thats how I feel.I rather have memories else wise,I just don't care for the practice, I know that many people out there does bring the camera and snap away, I rather look at a photo album at a funeral when the person was living.

Yes. The funeral director will actually take the photos for you. My father recently died and we got into the pictures etc....and found the funeral memory books from my grandparents. In the books were photos of the caskets empty, photos of them in their caskets and also photos of visitors at the visitation service. The photos were so interesting and guided us as we selected a casket, and clothing for my dad. After all - he choose these items for his parents. Also, the funeral director should offer a videotaping of the funeral. Get it. It's video that you may never watch, and the photos may be something that you never look at, but at least you have the option. After the burial or cremation is complete there is no going back.

In the 1800's and the early 1900's people took pictures of the dead all the time.I have never been to a funeral were someone took pictures but I have seen pictures. It may seem weird but its more common then you think.

I find it wierd too but at my Father in Laws funeral, there were cameras. My Mother in Law wanted pictures of the flowers that had been sent but one of my wifes Aunts actually took pictures of her Dad in the coffin. It upset my wife but she didn't say anything. I don't know why anyone would want to remember their loved one that way. I prefer to remember them alive and happy the way they used to be.

My word, I have older family members who take pictures at funerals. I decided to be the generation that put it to a halt. I really don't know why they do it, but it seem to be comforting to them.

I never would by my mother and grand mother would bring one to every funeral they went to.
My grandmother has what she called her death photo book. They have pictures of almost everyone standing near the casket.
I think it is just weird.
