Cut out the coffee and caffeine. Caffeine is known to cause severe anxiety in susceptible people.

Caffeine will have that effect on you. Stop drinking coffee, or at least, cut back drastically. You're body probably didn't know how to handle two conflicting substances and to try and 'save' itself, it caused a panic attack.
Stress is another thing that could make you foreak out like that. If it was, and think hard about it, you need to cut the stress down. Try more sex, excercise, masturbation, Valerian Root. Seriously...these things can really cut down the stress.
See a doctor all the same. There could be a serious underlying problem that only a doctor can point out.

I had two of them in the last 7 days but with deep breathing and relaxation techniques (I even fell asleep with my chest still aching), the pain will eventually subside.
I have marriage issues and other problems but I haven't had a panic attack in nearly 5 years before 2/11/07. Lay off the coffee and the alcohol and work on reducing the stress in your life. Maybe take a vacation or take a few days off work. I wound up leaving my job 7 months after my first panic attack. Good luck.

Alcohol can sometimes trigger panic attacks. If you were already having one and then drank alcohol, wow, look out! I bet it was the worst panic attack you have ever had.
Try extra strength halls. I know it sounds weird, but think about it. When you get that feeling that you can't breath, it really does help. It keeps your throat from feeling closed up and helps you breath. That is half the battle right there. Try deep breathing exercises, yoga or meditation. All of these bring a sense of calm and control. I find it helps mine a lot.

Panic attacks are common - don't worry. They're horribly frightening, but can be controlled. The key is not to let yourself get caught up in the racing thoughts or overwhelmed with how fast your heart is beating, etc. Cold sweats, shaking, and head pounding are normal too. Try deep breathing exercises, where you count from 1 to 3 as you breathe in, picturing the numbers in your mind. Exhale doing the same. When your thoughts wander, just refocus on the counting imagery.
If things get really out of hand, see your doctor. He or she could prescribe you anti-anxiety medication.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.
Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

I think alot of panic is just a mental thing you bring on yourself. Take deep breaths and imagine a relaxing place you like to go. I would try yoga or deep breathing or even hypnosis before I went on any kind of drug. Good luck. By the way I think we all have had a panic attack at some point. Life is stressful.

Get off the coffee, limit yourself to 2 cups a day and stay off the beer for a while and see if that helps. When you panic you need to do some deep breathing exercises, in through your nose and out of the mouth and just focus on the breathing, expand your lungs and breathe from your diaphragm. That should help a bit.

I had unbelievable anxiety, stress and paranoia for a while. A small dose of Zanax for about two months helped out. I don't know much about panic attacks though.
