Well, if its serious, like difficulty breathing, chest pains, etc. go to the EMERGENCY ROOM.

If its just minor, like swelling, hives, etc. take some benedryl. Works very well. Something with anti-histamine.

GOOD LUCK

Hopefully it didn't last too long and went away. If you don't know what caused it, maybe pay attention to when it happens again and see if you ate the same thing. That way, if you go to a specialist, they may already know the diagnosis because it happens to a lot of people. But it sure is less of a strain on your pocketbook if you can tell the specialist that asparagus, for example, gives you an allergic reaction. If they have to play "House" with you, it could get expensive.

Allergic reactions as already mentioned, can be very mild to very severe... life threatening. The faster a reaction comes on, the more serious it is. Symptoms can be sniffles, itching, etc.; or severe sudden onset of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea with painful spasms and cramping, hot flushed feeling, sweating; or the potentially life threatening anaphylactic type...itching, swelling lips, tongue and/or throat, difficulty breathing, wheezing, drop in blood pressure (resulting in dizziness, sweating, etc.). Any reaction should be evaluated by a physician, for the more serious reactions call an ambulance immediately!
Reactions can get worse with future exposures so it is important to determine what you are allergic to. Common food allergies include: peanuts, shellfish, sulfites (in many foods and most wines), citrus fruits, wheat, milk, and many others. Good luck, hope you get it sorted out!

Take an antihistamine and get medical help if you are having trouble speaking, breathing or swallowing. Some allergic reactions can be quite mild and cause a little tingling of swelling of the lips, others can be quite serious and require immediate medical intervention.

Depending on the reaction... anything from sniffle a bit for a while, to having a major case of hives or even anaphalactic (sp?... not in spellcheck) shock

Anything worse than some hay fever type symptoms... call 911. Better to get the ambulance out unnecessarilly than to die.

anaphalactic shock can kill in minutes. Don't mess around.

Depending on how bad the reaction is, you may need to go to the emergency room or at least call your physician first thing in the AM or call his answering service now, Just depends on what type of reactions you are having.

I simply drink Coke as neutralizer. After 5 hours, I am back to normal again. Actually, I am allergic, too to medicines and my worries now were that if ever I do really need to take such stuff, how could I ever survive!

Depends on what caused the allergic reaction.
If it's shellfish, be sure someone watches you carefully. At the first sign of shortness of breath, call 911.

Depends on how severe the reaction is, if you can't take care of it yourself (like you get shortness of breath or your throat is swelling shut) GET TO THE HOSP. NOW! Otherwise don't fret, a simple rash that doesn't spread is nothing to worry about, unless it covers most of your body.
