I agree with everyone else that answered this question. I myself am in healthcare (RN) and some of the questions esp that pertain to healthcare are not being answered correctly. These areas should be more for opinion not for true advice. As with any healthcare decision, one should consult their doctor if over the counter remedies/etc don't work or if they are unsure of what to do. This Is Not An Area Of Valuble and Truthful Information At All Times.....

Yes, the first time I saw Yahoo!Answers, I was suprised that people were asking for medical advice on a forum, and appalled at some of the responses that were given. I think there should be a larger disclaimer that many of the Answers are not being given by a professional and may not be accurate.
I'm not surprised at the cyberchondria. Hypochondria has been around since the beginning of time. :)

For people who have medical problems what is a better place to be?
For those in the medical community at all! There really is nothing wrong with giving personal opinions. For someone who ONLY relies on the answers from the web, well.... this is where the problems lie.....those who are not diagnosed but say they have this or that. I feel one should get diagnosed with something then say they have this or that, but we do not live in a perfect world.

To these people any kind of medical web site is dangerous, I think anyhoo......I did not know about this and is very interesting. Thanks for the info, learn something new every day :0)

It definitely could be a problem if someone is relying on Y!A to decide whether they are in the midst of a life-threatening emergency.

Whenever I answer, I always advise the person to go to their doctor to be safe (or call 911 and go to the ER, depending on the situation). When someone asks if their appendix might have ruptured, I get a little concerned!

its okay to ask. however, don't heed their warnings or their sole advise. talk to your own MD and get their opinion. jot down answers you receive if you feel it may help you. an old saying/// anyone can set up office. however, its your own health and you are responsible for your own actions. if you ask questions my dear that is exactly what you will get. some may be right some wrong. research and as i mentioned talk to your own Dr. you take care of yourself. thanks for letting me answer. nurse/Kat

Hell yes... but with all medical advice you should always check with your doctor.
