And our place in the universe, as if we have some sort of privilaged frame of reference. That the earth is in just the right place for life to evolve, which is not true. Life would have evolved wherever the earth was, it may have not been human but would be life.

Even the whole UFO debates, speaks of the imagined human self-importance in the universe. That Earth is still somehow at the center of the universe, the place to be and see the "ulitimate" creation, a human being.

I think the day comes when we find out that we are not alone in the cosmos, that there are other intelligent beings, will have a profound effect on the way we view ourselves. I think we will view ourselves in a better light, that we are not special.

I have never felt that way, I think Humans do many hurtfull, shamefull, and arrogant things. I feel we are fleas on the back of our poor mother, greedily sucking the life from her, and one day, she is gonna shake us off. Evolution has happened to us,obviously, but we still have a long way to go. Something earth threatening, unfortunatly, will probably be the only thing that could make us pull together and forget about our selfish, arrogant selves. I hope we can learn to care about the important things and become a planetary species before that becomes a reality.

The reason humans have this need is because God created us with this need. We seek relationships with other humans based on respect and love.- Do we not expect others to treat us with at least common civil courtesy because of our intrinsic value. Isn't our constitution based on our individual rights "being special". Our relationships with each other help us to understand the relationship we have with Him. If you want to envision the big picture of where we are in the cosmos, you should start with our place here.
As you learn in Earth Science in elementary school, everything is interdependent. Is the ant not special to the "big picture'?
Again, why do we need to feel special? Because we are special!
Good Grief, because Jesus Christ sacrificed His life, paid for each and every one of us with His blood, that sounds like we must be special.
Also, if the evil on this planet could decieve us and make us believe that we are not anything special, then that would mean we were not made in the image of God, that would mean Jesus would not make this sacrifice for us, and then evil would have another group destined to share his future.

We are special..for no other reason but that we are living...in the mass majority of the Universe life is absent...so to think we are special is correct.

Of Course there is life outside of the Earth..but they are just as special as we are

i will confine myself to the 1st area of your question, simply by fact it form of feels to me to be the finest. mentioning that human beings are "made in clone of God" is on no account a manner of springing up "conservative Christians" sense particular (or it relatively is probably no longer), simply by fact it additionally means which you, and your Mum, and Newt Gingrich, and Usama bin weighted down are all additionally made in clone of God. it relatively is a frustrating perception to maintain. 2 substantial provisos: before everything, if humanity is clone of God, it relatively is an relatively cracked and corrupted image. a great way from being self-congratulatory, it form of feels to me that Christians have an acute sense of mankind's deep ethical and non secular corruption it incredibly is probably lacking between rationalists. Secondly, the declare that mankind is made in God's image via no potential removes the deep relationship between God and all different factors of non-human creation. this is not any longer a potential of putting mankind different than for the the remainder of the created order.

Because most people can't, or won't, accept that after they die, that's it. Game over.

Most people can't accept that in the grand scheme of things they don't matter.

Most people can't accept that other life was here before us...and other life will probably be here after us.

There are cockroaches in almost environment on Earth. They've been around before us. My best is...they'll be around after us.

I'm happy with the small things in life. I'm happy with a kiss from a woman, and a song, and a beer.
