What makes me mad is that they are advised not to climb in winter months and their risking the safety of others to save their butts ! Also taxpayers have to foot the bill for rescue operations !

ABSOLUTELY!! These numbnuts think they are "Super-Granolas"-they can hike and do anything, anywhere, in any type of weather or conditions. They also seem to expect a lot of attention for their insipid "accomplishments", and expect everyone else to fawn all over them. Later on, naturally, they fall on their respective a.s.s.es and again expect everyone to rescue them at our expense. You are right-if the signs say "Don't Hike Here"-then do what the signs say!! They should make them find their way down or freeze their nads off. They ARE DUMBASSES!!

I suppose you could have posted the question under "Outdoor Recreation". ;)

Anywhos, I agree with you. Mankind has interfered with Mother Nature one too many times. She has her ways of weeding out the stupid people and we keep stopping her. I just wish all the stupid people were smart enough to get together as a group and get stuck on Mt. Hood at the same time. That way Mother Nature can weed out the unlucky ones in one fell swoop. We could then save a few thousand dollars finding the lucky ones left alive. Then we could cut off their foot and put it on keychains and carry it around with us for good luck. Ok, I'm kidding about cutting off their foot, but we should put them on keychains and carry them around with us.

I remember reading that taxpayers are not footing the bill. All of the rescuers are volunteers. They are doing something good for their fellow man. Try it sometime.
