I'm an American, moving to Australia soon. I've never been to Australia, am trying to decide where I should live?

I'm graduating with a double degree in Accounting and Finance. But I'm looking into going into Real Estate.

Does Perth have good real estate opportunities? Is a good place to live? What is the cost of living? What about Brisbane or Sydney? How's the Real Estate job market there? Cost of living?

What would be the best for me?

Thanks!

The real estate market in all cities are hot right now, particularly Perth, where prices are rising, and in Sydney where lots of people have suddenly decided to sell. Check careerone.com.au and seek.com.au for some jobs and see where most are available. It's worth contacting some agents before you arrive and asking their advice.

Perth and Brisbane get HOT. Sydney is a bit milder. Sydney is much more highly populated and the cost of living is higher, but it has the benefits of a major city - i.e all concerts and sporting events. And you can earn a little more.

To be honest if you're in Real Estate I would go to Perth or Brisbane, because living is cheaper, they still have great public transport and nightlife etc and you have more chance of getting a carspace at the beach! Brisbane is probably best for you because its only an hour flight to Sydney and three to Melbourne, and you will probably want to do some travelling around the place. Perth is the most isolated capital city in the world.

One more thing - there is a serious rental shortage in Sydney at the moment - they have up to 100 people turning up for rental inspections. So it would be hard to find somewhere to live if you want a suburb close to the city.

Brisbane is just awesome! I have been going for eight years now, and never ever find it boring. The city is very fast paced, beautiful, the weather is almost always georgeous, and the people are over-the-top friendly. It's close to the cleanest beaches I've ever seen, tho I live in Southern California, and there are some amazing beaches here - they're not as clean as Coolingata (sp?). I hear Melborne is nice, but the weather is not as good as Brisbane - cooler and rainy. And Sydney is pretty expensive. There are many little areas within Brisbane city that are great for shopping, eating and nightlife. Take a City Cat boat around Brisbane River, and see all of the city. Southbank is very nice, restaurant s, shopping and sightseeing galore. My personal belief is, that if anyone gets a chance to go to, or live in Brisbane, they are very lucky. You'll never want to leave!

I am an American and spent one month traveling around the East Coast of Australia. My favorite places were from the Gold Coast upwards, especially Cairnes (pronounced Cannes). I live in Los Angeles, so I like cities. I preferred Brisbane over Sydney. I liked the friendliness of the people up north though.

Hi, Real Estate in Australia is really starting to pick up, more particularly in Western Australia (Perth). Property in WA has recently sky rocketed (mainly due to our boom in the mining industry).

Best look into jobs on www.mycareer.com.au that'll be of some good use to ya mate.

Move to Perth if you ever want to own a home!

Sydney is far to expensive for anything except maybe if you want to buy in the outer west where nothing is ever quite right... think of mutants... i think you americans call them 'rednecks'

Brisbane is dead boring - seriously - dead boring. You could watch grass grow and find it more entertaining...

Oh yeah, I live in Sydney's Eastern suburbs... And my great gran children will inhert my mortgage!
