I lost more than 30lbs last year and this is how I did it:

I did 200 minutes of cardio a week. Bear in mind that fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Add ab work to your routine.

When weight training warm up with 5-10 minutes of cardio. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio after weights.

Don't look at your scale as your measurement for success, but get a measuring tape to check your body, that is where you will see your results!

Magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness kept me motivated.....Good luck !

Eat healthy foods like two fruits a day, three vegetable servings, legumes (peas), beans, whole grains like oatmeal and whole wheat, plus some lean protein like chicken without the skin.

For working out, start by walking 30 minutes a day and build up to an hour, five times a week, for about three weeks. Then you can go to a gym and learn some things from a personal trainer, but establish the walking routine first to build a foundation.

One multi-vitamin a day should be all you need, but if you're a woman you can add calcium, about 1,500 mg a day, and iron.

1-2 pounds a week is healthy, although you might lose some more in the first week, but that's mostly water weight.

You may find you have more energy as you walk more: it really does help.

There is no magic weight-loss pill, supplement, fad diet, or juice. The ONLY way to lose weight is to consume less calories than you burn. Brad Pitt didn’t get cut for Fight Club by drinking green tea, and you won’t either.

Walk for 30 minutes every day, including weekends, Mondays, and Fridays. Do at least 30 minutes of weight training each week. Do 60 minutes of additional, higher intensity cardio each week.

Cut back on the foods you eat with high fat and high sugar content. Eat only single servings (read the label) with less than 3 grams trans fat and 3 grams sugars. Throw out all of your ice cream, chips, cookies, cheese, fried foods, bacon, and candy.

Eat breakfast, and eat five small meals per day instead of three big meals. Don’t starve yourself during the day, but if you don't wake up famished, then you ate too much the day before. Stop eating at least two hours before you go to bed.

Get 6 to 8 hours of sleep every night. Turn off the TV and the computer. Sleep is vitally important.

Don't consume alcohol—alcohol is nothing more than empty calories with no nutritional value. Some people will argue that alcohol has some health benefits when consumed in moderation—I’m not debating that—but we’re talking about weight loss here. Lay off the booze if you want to lose the fat.

Drink lots of water, then drink more. Not tea, not Gatorade, not milk. Water. If your urine isn’t almost clear, you need to drink more water.

Good luck.

As for foods, eat lots of protein such as chicken, fish etc. Also, vegetables and fruits are important, try to cut down on refined carbs such as pastries, pasta etc. To work out, you can start by fast walking for 30 minutes daily. Add some weights and do situps and you should be fine. I lost 25 lbs last year that way and went down 3 sizes. Good luck!

www.weightwatchers.com. I find weight watchers the most effective and safest way to lose weight. I recently lost 45lbs using WW. With WW you get to eat the things that you love, in moderation. This makes dieting less of a "chore."
