Depending of how much time you have to spend here on the island, here are a few things that I would consider "must see" on Maui...
1. Travel the Hana Highway.
Stop along the road to see (and possibly swim under) many waterfalls.
Go to the ocean overlook at the end of Nahiku Road.
Stop at the fruit stand/gallery/coffee shop in Nahiku.
Visit the black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park.
Continue past Hana to the Pools of Oheo (Also known as Seven Sacred Pools), where you may swim in the river or hike up the Pipiwai trail to see the most beautiful waterfall in Hawaii, Waimoku Falls.
2. Go upcountry and up to the Haleakala Summit.
I can't blame you if you don't want to get up at 3 AM and drive up there to see the sunrise. However, if you go before noon, before the clouds roll-in, you are going to be treated to great views of Maui and neighbor islands.
3. Visit the Iao State Park and Maui Tropical Plantation in Wailuku.
You can visit these two sites in one afternoon. Go to Iao Valley first, then drive out of Wailuku down the Honoapiilani Hwy and stop at the Maui Tropical Plantation for a snack and a nice walk through the grounds.
4. Wailea beaches, Kamaole Beaches in Kihei or Kaanapali Beach north of Lahaina. Depending on where you are staying, these beaches offer great swimming and the convenience of shops and restaurants nearby. There is decent snorkeling area the rocks for beginners on all the beaches.
5. Makena.
Want to go to have a Maui beach experience "the local way"? Go to Big Beach in Makena. The area is mostly undeveloped and the beach is excellent. You may also be tempted to climb over the rocks to visit "Little Beach", a favorite spot for the "clothing optional" crowd. (Nude sunbathing and swimming is ILLEGAL in Hawaii, however, the authorities kind of don't intervene at Little Beach so long as people keep to themselves and do not cause trouble)
6. LaPerouse Bay
See the newest lava field on Maui. Also, great snorkeling spot at Ahihi Cove.
Have fun!

Oahu is quite extra populated and touristy, and subsequently delivers lots extra nightlife and procuring. The island of Oahu additionally has extra faculties to % between than Maui (college of Hawaii campuses, Hawaii Pacific college). there are various people to fulfill from infinite backgrounds; it quite is a melting pot of subculture. it quite is an fairly diverse existence type there, to not point out expensive, so ensure you're arranged to dedicate to being some distance removed from kin and could have the flexibility to locate the money for hire (think of $one thousand+ month-to-month) and the final fee of residing it quite is a lot bigger on the islands as often each and every little thing ought to be shipped from the mainland. do slightly diagnosis and don't make any snap judgements. Island residing quite sounds appropriate, yet can contain its downfalls. If it is a few thing you quite % to do, take somewhat some time to parent issues out and sturdy luck! it quite is a gorgeous place, a real paradise.
