I teach school and winking is an easy, Hi I see ya, how's it going. So I do it. I'm usually smiling so to smile at someone wouldn't work. But it sounds like some people think it means more than. A wink ;)

A wink can be very flirtatious. Keep it mind that it doesn't matter what YOUR intention is, what matters is how they take it. Since you asked this question, it means that you have some doubt as to its appropriateness. I'd say quit it immediately before you get yourself in trouble.

i use the wink every day. it's part of making people feel good--like they're in your club. i also try to speak to people as if i'm letting them in on a secret.

the message of the wink depends on the rest of your facial expression and body language. there are friendly winks and suggestive winks, and you really have to be in the moment to know which ones are appropriate.

I wink all the time sometimes without even noticing usually when I agree with someone, it's very common in LA, but in other cultures in can be perceived as something else I think as with everything it is how you do it and the attitude behind the action. I say be yourself and it'll be OK.

in your eye....
other than that, ...
i just think it's a weird gesture,
seriously..... even if someone
means only to be friendly.
